The second vulpine Side Shrine of Oogamiyama Jinja (大神山神社 "Great God Mountain Shrine"), located on the other side of the main temple, across from Chuuguu Jinja. This one features notably more foxes, and someone seems to have given them a generous offering of... chestnuts?!? Oh well...
This should also be the final vulpine Shrine I should visit here in Daisen before moving on to the next location. I've found quite a lot of foxies around here on my bike-ly exporation tours, so I am happy and content to move on.
It should, however, unexpectedly get yet more vulpine! It happens at the final underpass I need to traverse on my way back home - the sun has already set by then - that I see a shy animal peek into the tunnel at the far side, and quickly duck back into the bushes upon noticing me. At first, I think it might have been a cat, but as I emerge from the other side of the underpass, an all, too familiar shape quickly darts by me and into the tunnel. It's already too dark to tell for sure, but the shyness, the size, the shape of the head, and most importantly of all, the fluffy tail all indicate that I have just seen the sixth wild fox I've seen in my entire life. That makes three times in Japan now, two of which have been in Hokkaido, and that means that I have now officially seen as many wild foxes in the last 4 months here in Japan as in 30 years in Germany. Amazing!
