Title: You Need Internet Explorer...
Post by: Samui on Nov 28 2006, 09:17 PM
Don't you hate how some sites force you to switch to a different browser, just so you can view them? They're all "Sorry, your browser's not compatible...". Or, they don't tell you anything - like on Safeway's job application system (they use Odyessy) - and when you get to a certain point, there's a blank screen. You load it up in IE, and it works FINE. Gee thanks. It becomes less worth applying for a job there if your choice of browser affects the application process.

Then there's these survey things - yes, I do those surveys where you can earn money for taking time out of your life to take. A whole lot of them bitch about the browser I use. The funniest one I got was that it didn't support my browser, yet it was listed under the list of supported browsers. For Windows. So, I am forced to use another OS, just to view this survey? What the fuck difference does it make, what OS I use Firefox in? And why should it make any difference that I am not using IE?

Shouldn't web developers be competent enough to make sure this stuff is compatible with other browsers? Do they not think Linux users, or Firefox users, are worthy enough to view their sites?

Don't get me wrong, I am not proclaiming hate for Windows, or Internet Explorer. It's not about that. I am more irritated about how web designers *deny* people access to their sites over their browser and/or OS preference. People shouldn't have to be forced to boot back into Windows just to view a webpage, or even to apply for a job. (Well, I'm not booting back into Windows, I just use Pyromon to view the site in IE). Web designers need to get a clue, and make their sites compatible with all major browsers - IE, Firefox, Safari, etc. It shouldn't be too hard.

Well, I'll help you out there.  WINBLOWS is about the SH**iest OS there is; the only one it's better than is Mac.  And Internet Explorer's so featureless that you're better off trying to run a website through DOS.  'nuff said.

When i saw the topic title from the main page i thought it was about not being allowed to get Internet Explorer 7. Theres a thing at Microsoft called Windows Genuin advantage tool (a.k.a. Windows Genocid, as I call it) because of witch you cant get it for no reason other then the fact Microsoft hate you cuw you got your Windows from a friend instead of getting it from a shop. But otherwise, i have noticed some animations on some pages dont work under FireFoxx cuz noone made the plugin for it ^^

Windows Genuine Advantage is a farce. There are so many ways to cheat it and sometimes it claims your *legit* copy of Windows is pirated. There are also some sites that distribute copies of the non-security (and security) updates that require validation. Microsoft makes them redistributable - and they even say "redistributable".

My main issue is about sites that force you to use IE just to view it. It is very inconvenient.

I don't know what animations you're talking about. There's a Flash plugin for Firefox, especially in Linux, and it does support animated GIFs natively.

By the way, do NOT get the WGA tool, because it will cause some problems if it doesn't think your Windows is legit.

WGA is also a virus Microsoft released. Thow they call it a "pilot program". it installs itsself through windows update (bypassing any antivirus since it has microsoft's licence) and you get commercials in every corner of your windows about wga. Thow on their site they teach you how to hack your registry to remove it (yeah, thats what they do. i forgot the exact link but they teach you how to hack your registry to remove their tool). I cannot believe that users didnt start a conflict with them for this.

And about the animations, its a plugin that was released for ie and not firefox. i enter pages on firefox and get the "missing plugin" message. i tell him to install them but it says it cannot find the plugins. So i have to copy and paste the link into ie to see them (probably quick time or flash or something similar). The person Bill Gates looks like the most is Bush. If i didnt know better i could believe they're twins :)

"WGA is also a virus Microsoft released."

hah!! first they buy rare off from nintendo, thus causing them to cancel/edit/move a majority of their games to the xbox line, and now they're making their own viruses. how evil can a company get??

There are several ways around WGA, one of which being Windiz Update (http://www.windizupdate.com), which unfortunately for you MSIE users, is alternative-browser-only. Which is almost as bad as IE-only, except Firefox et al happen to be pretty solid pieces of software.
