Title: Hunters Ridge Apartments Powered By Hamsters
Post by: Pyrova on Sep 26 2010, 05:04 AM
Looks like the hamsters running the wheel for half this unit died again. Or they just got lazy. Perhaps they should upgrade to gerbils or something.

Though, on a serious note - two days in a row now, at around this time of morning (5am CDT) the power in half my apartment goes out. Yes, /half/ the apartment. The half where the living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms are. Luckily the server remains untouched, otherwise this rant would not be made right now. Turning on the oven would cause the power to kick back on.

These symptoms point to a fault outside where the 220v line splits into two 110v lines. Something like that. Turning on a 220v appliance - such as a dryer or an electric stove - would cause it to act as a bridge, backfeeding power into the 110v line that is down. I suppose that makes sense. I'm no electrician, though. I'm just going by what I've found on Google, and most of what I've read tells me that. Also, backfeeding power like that is not a good idea, as it could cause damage.

Now, I've told management about this when it first happened this month. Yes, it happened before. It also happened yesterday. All at the same time of day. Why? I have no fucking clue. But what I do know is, it shouldn't happen. I told them to have someone inspect the wiring. Doesn't seem like they did. And of course, the office is closed on Sunday so I have to wait til tomorrow.

I'm fucking steamed about this now, because I was making good progress on the new site. Luckily, no work was lost as it was server-side. And fortunately, I was not doing any CSS work at the time, otherwise I would be even more pissed.

I hate unnecessary delays. They make me want to punch something.

It's been happening for three months now. They still refuse to fix it. Yes, refuse. Because if they had the intent to fix it, they would have done so by now. They just don't care. They care more about switching our cable provider without our consent (oh yeah, we might have downtime in the next couple of weeks because of that), than they do about fixing problems with our apartment. And I have a list of things that need repair.

Seriously, Hunter's Ridge/Marquette Management. Fix your shit. It's not funny. It wasn't funny in August, it wasn't funny the past few months, and it isn't funny now.

So, the other day, I come home from work to an apartment filled with smoke. I find that the oven is /on/ even though it is switched off, and when attempting the breaker labeled "Range", it didn't shut off (turns out it was mislabeled). After having the fire department come here to unplug it and advise me to get an electrician over to fix whatever problems the apartment is having and to get the stove replaced, I called the emergency maintenance number to report the incident. I know that nothing can be done at night about it, but it is considered an emergency - because hey, there could have been a fire.

I find out that an hour before I got home, the smoke detector was going off, and they had to come to shut off the stove (we apparently had it on to backfeed power into the bad half of the apartment). Why they didn't leave a note about it was beyond me. The only evidence of someone even being here was the smoke detector being detached from the ceiling - not unplugged, just unmounted.

The next day, they come, and replace our stove. Apparently there was a crimped wire inside, so perhaps there was a short in there? Anyway, ever since the stove got replaced, we haven't had any issues. Yet.

This leaves me wondering if that was the cause of our problems all along. A short on a 240v line could cause some issues, perhaps including what we were experiencing. Too bad there was no way of knowing this until just recently.

On another note, the whole brownout thing seems to have caused Pyromon's PSU to blow up. Almost quite literally, too. I try powering it on, and sparks fly out the fucking vents. Scared the shit out of me. I'm hoping this hasn't caused any damage to the computer itself. I'm receiving a new PSU today, so hopefully that's all that is needed.
Title: Hunters Ridge - Laundry Stupidity
Post by: Samui on Dec 04 2011, 01:21 PM
Our dryer crapped out. And of all loads, it had to be my sheets. It doesn't heat up, and the timer doesn't advance on the automatic cycles (it seems to advance on the timed one). So, it's more like an "er", right? Much like what the maintenance crew says regarding this issue. "We don't know how to fix dryer, errrr. Wait til tomorrow, someone will be there." You stupid fuck. I need my sheets dry today. I need to fucking sleep today. Fucking...how hard is it to fix a goddamn dryer? I knew how to do it when I was 12 years old. I could do it myself if I had the money to buy the parts (of course, I would have them reimburse me for it, but I'm currently broke to begin with). It's called READ THE FUCKING MANUAL. FUCK.

And FUCK YOU for putting fucking money card systems on the washer and dryer in the laundry room. Why the fuck would you do that? Why the fuck do we even HAVE that room? We don't need it unless situations like THIS come up. And we have to pay, what, $10 for a fucking card so we could do a $1 load of DRYING? Eat shit. You evil fucking bastards. There is a special place in hell for you. ALL OF YOU WHO MANAGE THIS PROPERTY AND PROPERTIES LIKE IT. Who is the douchecanoe that thought this would be a GOOD IDEA so I can find him and punch him in the dick. Punch him so hard that it will go back in time and his dad will feel it before he shoots the EVIL SEED that produced the vile scum that lives today.

But seriously. I'm cranky, tired. Mad because our dryer's broke and it can't be fixed til tomorrow. So I have to sleep on damp sheets, because there's nobody useful working today. (Not that Hunters Ridge had a good history of useful maintenance. What, it took them a year and a half to fix our electric?)
