I have 3 shinies in my Sapphire version, two of them which I traded from my Fire Red version:
Wingull (F)
Unown (M-shaped)
Mankey (M)

I have 1 shiny in Crystal:
Kelis/Jynx ? Lv. 100
And 2 in Ruby:
Ashanti/Alakazam ? Lv. 69
Kelis/Smoochum ? Lv. 9 (traded from FireRed)

So like, what's the point of them being shiny. I never got the whole idea.

The first appearence of a shiny Pokémon in the TV show was a pink Butterfree in one of the episodes in the 1st season. I guess after that, they'd make more alternate colorings for all the Pokémon when they started on G/S. But shiny Pokémon aren't as much different as normal colored Pokémon, apart from that they are differently colored, and have a high rarity.

how do you get shiney pokemon?
-
Just walk around in grasses, fields, caves, etc. Eventually, a shiny Pokémon will appear. But, they appear very rarely. It took me 17 hours to find a shiny Jynx in Crystal.

The odds of finding a shiny Pokémon in the wild are 8,192 to 1, so you're in for a long and hard search if your finding a shiny.
