Title: the return to gen I
Post by: Yerix on Nov 12 2015, 04:45 PM
pokemon RBY (and G for our JPN friends) will launch on the 3DS VC 2/27/16 for pokemon's 20th anniv

and unlike most GB/C games, they'll have link cable functionality emulated for battle/trade

but as for the famous glitches like missingno and the mew glitch have been kept in is yet to be known, i doubt they'll do a mew event for these releases...and surfing pikachu in yellow's case, unless they plan on getting stadium 1 with transfer pak emulation on VC as well

it's not Z, but an unexpected surprise nonetheless, as GF has in the past has dashed hopes of past main games arriving on VC whenever asked on the subject

jynx and mr. mime need to be able to be found wild outside of missingno/mew glitch shenanigans
none of those pokemon could be found in the wild in any non-japan gen I game outside of glitches

so what'll happen to game corner in the VC releases now that europe by itself has effectively permabanned that concept from gen V onwards?

they acknowledged the surfing pikachu minigame, maybe they'll add some method to allow pikachu to learn surf ingame?

N3DS R/B bundle, this will be the standard N3DS' second launch also exclusive to a bundle (the first for an animal crossing HHD bundle)

europe is also getting the R/B/Y 2DS bundles, note the greater PEGI 12 rating compared to the recent games
simulated gambling began scoring high PEGI ratings around platinum's EU release, leaving to HGSS overseas releases with voltorb flip, and the abolition of the game corner concept altogether from gen V onwards
though it can be argued that the game corner concept lives on in the form of the PGL minigames

splatoon is having a red vs blue splatfest
super mario maker has a special course up with the kanto starters as costumes, and these have their own sounds

everyone pick blue because red will get crowded with charizard fanboys who can't squid out of a paper bag

missingno is back
http://nintendoeverything.com/pokemon-red-and-blue-on-the-3ds-virtual-console-still-have-the-missingno-glitch/

in fact, all glitches are intact as people who got the 20 anniv N3DS consoles early have found

with upcoming pokebank support, pokemon caught in gen I VC can be migrated to gen VII games (☀/🌙), and migration from gen VI to VII will be possible as well

i'm interested in the technical process making this possible - the GB era pkmn data structure differs a lot from the modern pkmn data structure, things like IVs, nature, and whatnot would have to be regenerated and calculated on transfer

this also would mean old movepools will get revisited...would a migrated gen I machamp, who can have fissure, be locked into having the guts ability?

pikachu's beach minigame no longer requires a pikachu w/ surf to play now

jynx's yellow sprite now has the purple coloration

remember these

http://i.imgur.com/OsbZJ.jpg
- hitmonlee should be packing HJK but it's 2nd fastest of the kanto fighting types - this was back when karate chop had to be normal typed in the game with the most broken crit formula, and fighting type moves were butt
- muk is better as far as mono poison types went, but psychics were the master race in gen I
- rhydon was better because you didn't need to trade for it
- aerodactyl worked - only best stab move was freaking sky attack, no rock moves whatsoever, but had speed on par with mewtwo for working with the best iteration of hyper beam in pokemon history
- gen I mewtwo was god, to where serious competitive circuits began banning it, so alakazam took it's place there
- parasect's only use was a capture aid w/ spore in the gold ol' days before false swipe, and that's if you chose not to clone a supply of master balls with missingno
bugs sucked chunky nuts in gen I and the thought of using them for any serious battles would be laughed hard at even today, mewtwo annihilates them before any of them hope to touch it, this was and is common knowledge, your only hopes against the eldritch product of science was basically electrode or jolteon paralyzing it with twave, coupled with chansey and pin missile jolteon and praying that you'll take it down before it manages to get an amnesia in

http://i.imgur.com/biBKFzi.jpg
- have missingno clone it and there's nothing you can't catch, but its certainly not worth a fearow or tentacruel

http://i.imgur.com/PBw7AYV.jpg
- except they didn't actually steal anything, even though it'd be a huge pissoff mechanic

http://i.imgur.com/ETeCgvs.png
- swift is 20PP, so it'd be quite a few battles before depleting
