Title: the dark....
Post by: Rocky the Echidna on Mar 12 2007, 03:40 PM: right this mite sound really stupid to people, but i am terrified of the dark and i dont mean ur average scared, i mean really really really scared. I swear its because i have a dark spirit followin me, because whenever i look to a small light i feel safe. its really begginning t freak me out now, and i dont know y it is.... cn sum1 help? pwz??

Everyone has a natural fear of the Dark or Darkness, this is because of all the things "Darkness" tends to symbolise: Fear, Anxioty (sp?), loneliness, Evil. When in the dark you feel vunurable and on your own. When you see a dark place you tend to be hesietent (sp?) about going in there. Dark clouds often symbolise impending doom, although in the real world its just impending rain. the reason you would feel a spirit in your case Rocky is because when in the dark and cant see, your other senses tend to be hightend to a point beyond your own control. We also get a slight sixth sense, when you can feel the presence of something nearby. Your spirit you can feel could possbly be just an object in the room, And due to the natural anxiaty that the darkness brings, its feels like someone is there.
And the reason any small light makes you feel safe is because of what the light symbolises. Warmth, life, pure, Good.

Post by: Yerix on Mar 15 2007, 09:43 PM: been using a nightlight since birth myself, and when there's a lengthy power outage, theres the flashlight or lantern, because candles are a fire hazard and alot of my property is irreplaceable.

Having something to hold helps, especially when going to bed in an awkward and anxious state. ^.^;

A few days ago, I saw my first horror movie. It was Halloween (1970), and it scared the heck out of me. I was checking the darkness for weeks and running home from the bus stop. Sometimes I still do...

Then again, I've never much liked the dark, but I like to think 'this place is the same in the dark that it is in the light' and then I remember what it normally looks like and I feel safer.

I hope this doesn't make me look like a coward O_O

as to why you are scared of it, darkness symbolizes the unknown and what it might hold rather than what it does hold...
its like this, when you are watching somebody with your eyes open you can be sure of their intentions because they are there and solid, but close your eyes and you grow suspicious of their actions, this is because they are hidden from you, the same thing with the dark, its really just like a blind fold, the easiest way to over come such a fear is to try to trust your other four (or five) senses more

hmm.. trusting other senses in interesting, but I doubt my sense of taste is going to help me before the killer leaps from the darkness and makes a gaping wound in my chest -.-

anyways, in reality. It's probably good to do what TalonShadowfox said and rely on your other senses more, but just remember that a room is never 'as dark as it could be' until you can't see your hand infront of your own face :)

Post by: Seeker on Jan 10 2008, 08:33 PM: I like the dark. I wish I didn't live in the middle of a city because light pollution and the snow make for an eternal twilight in winter. I never turn on a light unless I have to do something precise(like type a forum reply, for instance.) And people I know wonder why I see and hear so much better then they do even though I wear glasses. To the point where they talk about me having "super hearing" and whatnot.

It's because I don't barrage my senses with bright light and loud noises day in and day out like they do. People are obsessed with the sun, they're always like "why don't you go outside?" "have you been outside today?" "You aren't getting enough sun." And they all have to turn on a light just to move through the house in midday. One of my friends hangs out with people who have nothing better to do than sit around and see how loud they can get their cars to play the latest rap track. He was over yesterday and was listening to his stuff on his laptop, and he had to have it so loud just to hear it that my neighbor came over and complained about it. His phone rang on the charger across the room, and I heard it just fine even over the music, but I had to tell him he had a call. I cannot talk to him on the phone for more than a few minutes because he has to yell into it for other people to hear him.

What freaks me out is when my hearing is bocked- when there is too much noise for me to distinguish one sound from another. I feel like somebody's gonna sneak up on me and I won't even notice.

Post by: TalonShadowfox on Jan 14 2008, 06:32 PM: oftentimes even when its not dark out i close my eyes anyways and focus on my other senses... i just like experiencing the world in other ways then just images... you be surprised how many scents you can pick up in a high school hallway you can pick up if you just lean against a wall for a few seconds and close your eyes...
