Doom
« on: Jul 28 2005, 01:36 AM »
A co-worker of mine had mentioned that Doom is being made into a movie. It seems very interesting, although at first it may sound weird. I mean, a FPS game being made into a MOVIE? It does sound odd. But, it sounds really awesome.

A scientific research group - the UAC - has discovered the last 10 percent of the human genome, yet with some side effects. Residents are found dead or missing, frayed and bloody labcoats and severed limbs are discovered. Evidently, the project unleashed some beings. Basically what the storyline of Doom is -- demons from Hell invading a scientific lab, and it being up to one person to kill them all.

You may be familiar with one member of the cast whom would be none other than The Rock. He is the one who plays Sarge who leads the group into the UAC.

The movie is to be released on October 21, 2005. I'm looking forward to it.

The trailer is attached to the topic. Enjoy.

I'm gonna see it anyway, but I'm sure it's gonna suck. How I'm SURE about it is because of the following reasons:
1. Game-based movies suck.

I really don't care about the special effects, I know that the story will blow. It's kind of the same as the Resident Evil movies. They suck.

Yeah, it probably won't be the best.

Did you know that originally, Doom was supposed to have story-based gameplay, with scripted events and NPC's? Interestingly enough, there were going to be four team members to choose from, and most of them ended up modified and plopped into Rise of the Triad.

I wonder if they're going to use elements of the old plot in the movie?

Doom Bible details the various elements of the story and the game that never were. It was supposed to be much more technology oriented and the game was supposed to look like actual bases, rather than hell.

The movie did sound interesting at first, but my friend told me that it wa supposed to actually be mostly a first person movie, like something seen in Imax's.

Actually, there is one game-related movie that's not bad - Alone in the Dark is pretty good.

Cool! I might try getting the movie when it's released. I played Doom 3 (just passed Hell) and I think a movie after this game might really be interesting. The combination between SF and mystic is extreemely cool but the game is way too violent and creepy (I've read in PC-World that it was forbidden in half of the world because of how violent it is). But maybe they'll make the movie in such a way so you can sleep after watching it :D

And I don't think game-based movies suck. Most games have a very cool storyline that might work really well as a movie but I never saw any game-based movies (I'd do anything to see a movie after Mafia if there is any thow...)

There are parts of the game witch are cool. I never saw a game where you get to shoot spirits with a plasma rifle or find magic symbols on computers and the weapons theirselves are very cool (and I'm very curious how they will simulate hell (the level)) but I hate gore.

I at least hope that they won't include this nasty idea like at the level with the train where you talk with a civilian (or scientist), then you get off the train to open some doors and when you come back you find him laying in pieces in front of the door with a beast over him (I freezed at that part :D )

Hey!  Not all vidio game movies suck!  The first Mortal Kombat was alright....  .....the second one was lame, but so are to most sequils...  DOOM seems like it's going to be crap...  The only shooter game that'd look kick ass (if movies didn't suck so much now) would be Perfect Dark.  ...at least, I think so...
