Apparently Sony decided to do what nobody was wishing for.
Sony Pictures and Neal H. Moritz, producer of the Fast & Furious franchise, are set to bring another high speed franchise to life: Sonic the Hedgehog! The studio will team up with the CG animation film-production company Marza Animation Planet and a division of the Sega Sammy Group to develop a hybrid CG-animated/live-action feature film featuring the speedy hedgehog. Evan Susser & Van Robichaux have been tapped to write the script which will follow the escapades of Sonic & his friends and is also expected to feature the notorious Dr. Eggman.
I have a bad feeling about this, hopefully it gets stuck somewhere in development hell or forgotten about.

Extreme majority of movies Hollywood shat out the past 10 years is utter garbage in general. They won't realize fuck until an earthquake swallow the shithole up entirely.
Regardless, this could be good. Could be bad. Who knows, who cares, we'll have a bunch of losers in age 30 and upwards whining how its not dark/serious enough for their "adult" tastes, disregarding the shit is pumped out to satisfy the braindead 10 year children of today. And satisfy them it probably will.

the sequel isn't even in theaters yet and they've already confirmed not only a third movie officially in the works, but a live-action knuckles spinoff TV series

It's also been confirmed that Ken Penders will be working on the spin-off series, and that guy...doesn't necessarily have that good of a track record.

oh, the guy who has it in his head that he owns anything and everything pertaining to knuckles' race other than knuckles himself and the echidna tribe and their lore starting from adventure1, as well as everything else he created under archie, and everything in sonic media that remotely resembles something he created is an instant infringement - single-handedly led to the killing of archie sonic, led to sonic chronicles being buried for eternity, and overall creating lasting effects on the sonic franchise as a whole as it has led to sega enacting mandates for future sonic media on both themselves and licensors
