Vulpine Side Shrine 4/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #68 of Inariyama.

This one is pretty much a sibling Shrine of Suekichi Ookami. They share the same design, and even the fox guardians are of the same make. The most striking difference is that this one does not have any small red Torii standing in front of it. I should yet find out the deeper meaning of this, but not until Shougatsu (正月 "Correct Month" = "New Year").

Vulpine Side Shrine 5/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #69 of Inariyama.

There's a proper line of Fox Shrines here along the path, and this one it the next of them. It does seem to be a pretty lucky Shrine with a pair of old foxes standing guard.

Vulpine Side Shrine 6/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #70 of Inariyama.

Regrettably, I didn't quite catch the first Kanji of one of the names on my photos. By now my camera is singing the critical battery siren blues, and I try to get the most of what I still have left by shooting my pictures as quickly as possible. The fact that it is around noon by now and the sun is in my face when photographing south doesn't make it any better either.

Vulpine Side Shrine 7/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #71 of Inariyama.

A pair of old, mossy fox guardians watches over this Shrine as well. And once again the sun is too bright for me to make out all the Shrine's names.

Vulpine Side Shrine 8/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #72 of Inariyama.

Another dragon Shrine guarded by foxes.

By the way, do you see the Kanji engraved beneath the Shrine and the fox statues? I reckon those are the names of the people who donated the Shrine and the Statues respectively. There are more on some Shrines than on others.

Vulpine Side Shrine 11/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #75 of Inariyama.

By now, I have reached the eastern outskirts of Aoki Ookami, and even here the Travelling Fox is not welcome, oh well. Gotta keep on shooting my memories from without then.

This fancy new Shrine is interesting, by the way, since it introduces a new Shinto Deity to me: Ookuninushi , the Great Land Lord. A god of nation-building, farming, business and medicine, he originates from the Izumo province of Japan, which I actually visited a few months ago on my Odysseys west of Daisen (see Shrines #210-234). Today the Izumo province makes up the western part of the Shimane prefecture around the two lakes Shinji and Nakaumi.

Vulpine Side Shrine 12/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #76 of Inariyama.

Right next to the Torii of no entry stands this age-old Shrine with Ookami stones so withered away by time that I have trouble making out even just one of the many names that are written on them. I can occasionally make out a kanji here an there, but the hard part is finding a name of which you can still recognize all Kanji, or at the very least enough to make an educated guess.

Incidentally, this is also the first Shrine in a while that has "Inari" in one of its names... at least if my guess is correct. But by now, I reckon I'd recognize that Kanji anywhere. It feels like home.

Vulpine Side Shrine 13/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #77 of Inariyama.

A cute little cornerstone Shrine, the names of the dieties worshipped here withered away to nothing. I can only just barely make out one of them, and even there I might be mistaken about the "岩" Kanji.

Vulpine Side Shrine 14/16 of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #78 of Inariyama.

By now, we are in the final row of fox Shrines of Aoki Ookami, where one just follows the next. This time around, the Kanji are not quite as withered away, but I still have to make an educated guess about two of its five names.

A Shrine with a very interesting name, or maybe I just got the first Kanji wrong. That one is quite withered after all.

The Final Vulpine Side Shrine of Aoki Ookami, and Vulpine Shrine #80 of Inariyama.

This one is notable in two ways, firstly for the unusually ornate stone plaque on its Torii (especially considering it's such a small Side Shrine), and secondly for the unusual Shimenawa adorning the Ookami rock, which is not outfitted with paper streamers but rather rope streamers.

Vulpine Shrine #81 of Inariyama.

The rare solitary vulpine Shrine on the flanks of Inariyama, and incidentally the southernmost fox Shrine I should visit in Kyoto. I'm sure there are many, many more, however.

This one is at the end of a dead end, a field path that I walk out of sheer vulpine curiosity since it didn't even lead the way I was going. But I had an inkling, and so I checked, and so I found this Shrine, which might be dedicated to Amenominakanushi (天之御中主神), the primordial goddess of the sky, and one of the three Kami of creation.

Vulpine Shrine 1/5 of Nanamentaki, and Vulpine Shrine #82 of Inariyama.

Just a bit further, there is a little vale that is home to a Shrine named Nanamentaki (七面瀧 "Seven Face Waterfall"). Naturally, this place is home to a number of fox Shrines as well. At the very first one, the foxes are already badly battered, with one being cleanly broken in two.

This time-worn Shrine in particular is interesting, with all of the subordinate names written in soem strange script that I can only guess at. The first characters are clear, and the last character at least looks like a "神", but I'm not sure if the second-to-last character is really supposed to be a "大", or if it is something else entirely.
