An Inari Shrine in the middle of a block of houses. We should actually be able to see it for a while before actually finding a way to get there.

A total of three fox statues of unique design watch over this Shrine, along with a pair of Komainu in front of the outer gates.

An little domestic Inari Shrine found inside the stairwell of a house next to the approach to Jinkyuuryuu Inari. In place of fox statues, only a pair of vulpine lanterns decorate this Shrine.

Also, I should not find this Shrine at all. Instead, it is my companion's curiosity who urges here to peek into the nearby house, and point out the tiny Shrine within to me. My thanks go to her. =^,^=

A Side Shrine of the city Shrine Okayama Jinja (岡山神社 "Hill Mountain Shrine"), located by the side of Asahikawa (旭川 "Morning Light River"), not to be confused with the city and river of the exact same name (for once) in Hokkaido.

A pair of custom-carved fox guardians stands watch over this one.

It doesn't get much smaller than this, and yet a number of more or less complete foxie make their home in here.

An Inari Shrine right on the promenade of Asahikawa, decorated with some seasonal flowers.

The final Inari Shrine that my friend and I should find straying through Okayama. This one not  only features a pair of fox lanterns, but an entire stairwell full of vulpine guardians.

Also, there is a story behind this Shrine. Hashihime was a maiden who waited for her lover to meet her at a bridge at night. She waited, and waited, and waited, but her  lover did not come. Eventually, she turned into an Oni fuelled by hatred and jealousy.

And now...

...after elven months in Japan...

...eleven months already filled with plenty of foxes and vulpinity...

...now, it is time for the grand finale.

I have arrived in Kyoto, and am presently en-route to Fushimi Inari Taisha, the grand Shrine of Inari worship in Japan, where it all began. Befittingly, I am doing so right on Xmas day.

Inariyama, on which Fushimi Inari Taisha is located, can already be seen to the southeast. Meanwhile, I find this vulpine Shrine as a Side Shrine of Toufukuji (東福寺 "East Lucky Temple"), one of the great Temples of Kyoto, with a pair of foxes watching over it.

It  should only be the slightest hint for the incredulous amounts of vulpinity that is yet to come.

At long last, I have finally arrived at the  goal of my pilgrimage: The grand Shrine of Inari worship in Japan. Even the nearby train stations are built in the style of Shrine architecture.  This is the one and only CRYSTAL Rank Shrine in all of Japan, and the reason why should soon become apparent.

Great fox guardians flank the path left and right, but they should only be a small taste of the vulpinity that  is yet to come. Notable, many of them are dark foxes.

The true cradle of vulpinity should be found on Inariyama,  the holy mountain of Inari that is located behind Fushimi Inari Taisha, and part of the extensive sacred Shrine grounds. Among others, the famous endless tunnel of Torii - boh big and small - is to be found here.

Vulpine Shrines beyond count should follow from here on out, so make yourselves comfortable, because we are going to be staying in the area of Fushimi Inari Taisha for a long, long time (even though it should only be one day in real time).

The first of the four vulpine Side Shrines in the immediate vicinity of Fushimi Inari Taisha, featuring a pair of white guardian foxes inside.

There is also a large number of non-vulpine Side Shrines immediately around the Grand Shrine, while the vulpine overflow Shrines should be located further inside on the slopes of Inariyama.

The second of the four vulpine Side Shrines in the immediate vicinity of Fushimi Inari Taisha, with a pair of foxes standing watch in their own guardhouses, and another pair parially hidden away behind drapes inside.

Despite the name, there should still be a generous number of Shrines further inside.

The third of the four vulpine Side Shrines in the immediate vicinity of Fushimi Inari Taisha, located directly to the left of Fushimi Inari Taisha Okunomiya.

True to its name, two white foxes reside within.

Incidentally, I should not come across the fourth vulpine Side Shrines in the immediate vicinity of Fushimi Inari Taisha until much later on my tour of epic vulpinity, after traversing the entirety of Inariyama and visiting its many, many fox Shrines.

The first vulpine Shrine along the several-kilometre-long row of endless Torii, known as the Senbontorii (千本鳥居 "Thousand Main Torii" (although it is really more like tens of thousands)), which stretches all the way to the top of Inariyama and loops back around to meet itself at a place called Yotsuji (四つ辻 "Crossroads").

A pair of foxes watches over this one. Also, there are vulpine charms on sale here for a very reasonable price, so I choose to buy a cute little vulpine Ryokou Anzen Mamori (旅行安全守り "Travel Safety Charm") to keep me safe on my travels.

A tiny little collection of Unenshrined Kami with Foxes in attendance, located right next to Neagarimatsu (根上り松 "Ascending Root Pine") along the Endless Torii Corridor.

The Foxes here vary in style and condition. A pair of pristine white foxes sports cute red bows, while another bunch playing on a nearby rock is already badly weathered.
