A Side Shrine of Takabi Jinja (鷹日神社 "Falcon Sun Shrine"), which is directly connected to Mizutama Inari Jinja. One might even go so far as to call Mizutama Inari Jinja a very remote Side Shrine of Takabi Jinja. I, however, choose to see them as two separate Shrines with close proximity to one another.

Anyway, this little Side Shrine has a bare minimum vulpine presence, but a fox is a fox.

Another vulpine Side Shrine of Takabi Jinja, overlooking the city of Matsue  in the nearby valley.

This one features a few more foxes than the last one, as it only proper, since it is one of the few Shrines dedicated explicitly to foxes.

Yet one more vulpine Side Shrine of Takabi Jinja.

This little Shrine has a total of 64 little foxes watching over it, some of  which are in better condition than others.

A shy little vulpine Side Shrine cleverly hiding itself behind a hedge. I should only coincidentally find it on my way out from the main Shrine.

A number of foxes are finding shelter in this Shrine, both inside and out.

This post should also be special because I made it from aboard the Ferry from Kagoshima to Okinawa. Alone the pictures didn't make it, so I had to add them after my arrival.

A Side Shrine's Side Shrine, standing right next to the above Shrine. Maybe not even a proper Shrine in its own right, but it has foxes, so I'm listing it here.

The two little foxes watching over this tiny Shrine are old and battered and broken, and yet they still persist at doing their sworn duty. I admire their dedication.

Yet another nameless Side Shrine of a nameless Side Shrine. Or is it two? It's kinda hard to decide when many little ones stand this close together...

Once again, a number of faithful  old foxies stand watch over this one, and once again, many of them are battered and broken after what must be decades of service... and maybe longer.

The final vulpine Shrine I should visit on the first part of the Odyssey Ride, just before parking my broken bike at Higashimatsue Eki (東松江駅 "East Pine Creek Station") and returning home for the day.

This one is a little Side Shrine of a larger Inari Shrine, and as appears to be common in this area, the foxes here are already badly worn out.

Two days later, I should return to have my bike repaired and embark on the second half of the Odyssey Ride.

This is the first vulpine Shrine I should find on the second leg of that epic ride. All kinds of foxes reside here: Big and small, old and new, inside and outside.

A little vulpine Side Shrine hidden behind the above one.

This is another one of those shriney conglomerates that I'm not sure as how many Shrines I should count it. I think I'll decide on "one", and there's foxes too!

I only need to turn around to find the next fox Shrine. This one is actually located at the back wall of Kaiun Inari Jinja, so I am even less certain of whether it qualifies as its own Shrine.

However, since it features many many cute little foxies, as well as an offertory box for me to make a donation at, it fulfils my personal criteria, and thus I choose to include it in this list.

Yet another Side Shrine of Kaiun Inari Jinja. This one, however, is finally a proper little Shrine again, and even has its own name.

In addition to the two little foxies on the altar, there are two more standing on  the grounds to the left of the Shrine. I choose to attribute them to this Shrine.

A little bit further to the south on the same little hill as Kaiun Inari Jinja, there lies Daisendai Jinja.

Not an Inari Shrine on its own, it features a tiny little Side Shrine with a tiny little fox, and you know I can't say no to foxes.

This Shrine is already a good ways further down the road, in the town of Iya (揖夜 "Assembled Night").

It is actually a Side Shrine of the eponymous Iya Jinja, located on the side of a forested hill at the back of the main Shrine. Two foxes faithfully watch over this minimalistically named Shrine.

Yet another minimalistically named Side Shrine of Iya Jinja. This one is located perpedicular to the previous one. Quite literally. You only have to turn 90° to the right, and you're looking right at it.

This one is another of the  interesting ones where in addition to quite a number of foxes, there's also a pair of those guardian dog/lion creatures around.

One more minimalistically named vulpine Shrine. This one is a good ways further down the road  though.

A Side Shrine of the Hachimangu (八幡宮 "Hachiman Shrine") of Akaechou (赤江町 "Red Creek Town"), I should come across this one as a result of a spontaneous change of course. Once you get within a kilometre or so of to the solitary hill standing in the middle of the rice fields, you can see the great Torii marking a Shrine, and once you're inside you can find the Inari Side Shrine by climbing a small staircase up to a low ledge on the hillside.

This one is noteworthy in several regards since it depicts a few local peculiarities I've noticed in vulpine Shrines in this area. For one, some of the foxes - usually the bigger ones - wear holy Shimenawa collars. And then many of these Shrines also have holes just the right size for a fox, allowing them to take shelter inside in accordance to the ancient pact.

Also, this one in particular has something that I struggle to call anything other than a "fox dump".
