Yet another nameless Inari Shrine of Nikko. This one is located near a Yuba-shop by the name of Nikko Yubayuzen.

It appears to be quite old already, and the once red Torii has faded to a golden yellow colour. The two foxies watching over the Shrine are good as ever though.

And now, I would like to apologize for breaking sequence and travelling back in time to 8-May-2018, but I just realized I completely forgot to post about this tiny private Twin-Shrine that I found located in the front yard of a private road across the road from just between Nikko's two train stations.

Nikko's two train stations are only a few minutes apart from each other, but they are operated by different train companies, and their routes from here on out - while both heading southeast, vary considerably from one another.

Either way, this one is also the southeasternmost Fox Shrine I should find in Nikko, with a total of three little foxies watching over it.

The last Fox Shrine I should find in Nikko on the night prior to my departure, on the way back to the hostel with my best friend. Good thing my little camera's flash was good enough to shed some light on the two foxes standing watch over this one.

The only Fox Shrine that I should find in the Shiroishi Area, and certainly the most special one on my journey thus far, for this one is  attended by real live foxes.

That is because it's standing in the one and only Zao Kitsune Mura, within the half-hectare big fox run that houses about 200 foxes walking and playing side by side with the visitors, completely unrestricted.

Here's a video of it:

The first Fox Shrine I should find in Ishinomaki. Despite the name,  it's not purple at all.

Ishinomaki was one of those towns that was destroyed by the 2011 Touhoku Earthquake and Tsunami  death combination that also triggered the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster. As a result, the entire town is still pretty ramshackle,  and the Shrines are probably not what they used to be either.

Also as a result, the road maps are not always accurate  since some roads have been destroyed and some new ones built in different locations, so navigating this place is not always as straightforward as one might think.

This nameless little Shrine sits in the middle of a field. Overgrown fundamentals are the only remnants of the buildings that once used to stand here.

And yet, the Shrine was rebuilt before all else. Maybe a bigger and more glorious Shrine used to stand in its place once, but I like it as it is. This just goes to show how important the Shinto religion is to the people who live here.

The one and only Fox Shrine I should find on Tashirojima, also known as one of the two Cat Islands in Japan.

This one is a Side Shrine of Inaridaimyouin (稲荷大明神 "Inari Great Gracious Goddess"), and is actually quite run down. As a result the 15 little foxies here are waiting outside of the Shrine together with some Buddhas.

What would a Cat Island be without a Cat Shrine? Located right in the middle of Tashirojima (田代島 "Field Age Island"), there is a number of live cats straying around in addition to all the cat statues.

Sadly, both of Tashirojima's villages are considered Genkai Shuuraku (限界集落 "Terminal Villages"), meaning that over 85% of the population are elderly, and they are expected to become completely abandoned. As it is, many houses are standing empty on this island, so maybe it will soon be entirely owned by cats.

Notably, there are not nearly as  many cats around here as there were foxes in the Zao Kitsune Mura. It's kind of a letdown really.

Back in Ishinomaki from Tashirojima, I find this Shrine atop a 40m high Shrine Hill not far from the harbour. Being on the high ground, these Shrines were spared the destruction from the Tsunami seven years ago.

Kashimamiko Jinja actually has a total of three vulpine Side Shrines, and this is but the first of them.

Another vulpine Side Shrine of Kashimamiko Jinja. This one is actually part of a two-god-shrine, the one to the right being a Hachiman Shrine.

It is quite common to see big Shrines having both an Inari and a Hachiman Side Shrine, since those two are the biggest Shrine Networks in Japan. This, however, is the first time that I see them joined like this.

The  third and last vulpine Side Shrine of Kashimamiko Jinja.

This one is really cute and looks kinda makeshift. Most notable, however, are the fox statues on either side, which are of a different design than I have seen before.

The final Inari Shrine with Foxes I should find in Ishinomaki before moving on.

This one is a Side Shrine of Toyazaki Jinja (鳥屋崎神社 "Bird House Promontory Shrine"), and as fate would have it, there is also a Hachiman Side Shrine on the other side of the Main Shrine.

The first Fox Shrine I should find on my visit to Morioka, and the third Golden Fox Shrine I should find in Japan after #48 Anamori Inari Jinja and #94 Swazoushi Inari.

This one is surrounded by forest on three sides, with the Shrine Grounds containing a lake and countless Sakaki-trees, which are flowering evergreen trees sacred to the Shinto faith.

At only four vulpine Side Shrines, it falls short of what the other two golden Shrines have to offer, but it more than makes up by it with the serene splendour of the pristine scenery.

The main Shrine already has a total of 12 foxes attending inside and out, and the Side Shrines should only serve to further the vulpine total until I just stop counting and acknowledge the number of foxes around here as "many".

Incidentally, this Shrine is located just next to Kitsunemori (狐森 "Fox Forest").

The first of the four vulpine Side Shrines of Sakakiyama Inari Jinja. Two crudely carved but definitely recognizable as such foxes stand beside it.

This one is one of maybe eight different types of Shrines on the slope leading up to the Kanedsukuri Jinja Side Shrine, which is going to be the next Shrine in this list.

The second of the four vulpine Side Shrines of Sakakiyama Inari Jinja, standing at the top end of a hillside littered with other little Shrines, and watched over by a pair of foxes.

This once is one of those uncommon Shrines that are not Inari Shrines, but are watched over by foxes nonetheless. I guess the vulpine influence is spreading, and soon they will be watching over ALL the shrines! MUAHAHAHAH!!!
