Despite its name, this Shrine is only located on a small hill in Shibuya.

The neighbourhood is nice and quiet though, a welcome break after the masses of people in central Shibuya.

I find this shrine late at night near a park in Shinjuku.

Despite the poor illumination you can still make out four foxes faithfully watching over this little side shrine.

The last Inari Shrine I should discover late at night on 22-Mar-2018. Fortunately, this one was a bit better illuminated than the last one.

Actually, I was looking for this one in the wrong place at first, and ended up walking around the wrong block twice before eventually giving up and continuing on. At the next crossroad, however, I briefly glanced over my shoulder and saw this little Shrine in front of a mighty office building. That's what I call a find on Last Judgement!

The first Inari Shrine I should find on my stray from Kudan to Shinjuku on 27-Mar-2018, and the new record holder for the smallest Inari Shrine.

This is actually the Shrine I was looking for when I found #17 in front of Ryumonji. Seeing how small this Shrine turned out to be, it is no wonder I couldn't find it before, even though I was literally standing only a few feet away from it on the other side of the fence.

*normally, "Shrine" is written 神社, meaning "Shrine of Spirits". This little Shrine, however, is written only with 社, which makes it only "Shrine", or maybe more properly a Shrine-let.

With a total of 36 little foxes congregating at this little side Shrine, this one definitely breaks the record for most foxes,  the previous record holder having been #2.

This one is actually a side Shrine not of a Shinto Shrine, but a Buddhist Temple. I wonder, does this make it an Inari Temple as opposed to a Shrine? The borders between Shintoism and Buddhism can be fluid sometimes here in Japan, and either way, foxes are foxes, right?

The last Inari Shrine I should visit on 27-Mar-2018, and a really special one at that.

For starters, this shrine was really Really REALLY hard to find. Hidden in a backyard of sorts, nested between houses and hills, there's no way to find it until you know exactly between which two  houses you have to go to get there. I was actually looking for it once before but couldn't find it  back then.

This time, however, I could find it because there was a festival, and that meant many flags and people to follow. It was a ceremony wherein a Shinto priest refreshed the blessing of the Shrine. Afterwards, each attendant - myself included - laid down a green branch at the shrine and said a short prayer to Inari-sama.

I have actually taken a video of this ceremony. Here it is:

The first Inari Shrine I should visit on 29-Mar-2018 during my stray through eastern Koto, specifically Minamisuna (南砂 "Southern Sands").

Hidden out of view  of the main road just around a corner, a characteristic myriad of red and white flags advertises the presence of this shrine.

A little, nameless Inari Shrine attended by a pair of little foxes.

This one is the defining feature of a small square at a street corner in Minamisuna.

A shrine surrounded by lush greenery in the heart of Koto. Not only foxes watch over this shrine: There's also a school of fish living in the little pond.

The name of this one is actually a bit of a conundrum: Literally, it would mean "Eight Many Inari". However, the Kanji for eight, "八", also has a very rarely used meaning of "greenery" or "garden", that I  happen to know of because it is used in the word for "greengrocer": 八百屋 (literally: 800 store; analogous: garden farmer store).

The final Inari Shrine I should find on 29-Mar 2018.

This one sits right by the side of the road, so it's hard to miss. There's not much to it, but the two foxes standing watch over it are already more than enough for me.

The first Inari Shrine I should find on 1-Apr-2018, and also the southernmost one so far. It is also the first Inari Shrine I should find outside the City of Tokyo, in Kawasaki to be specific, and while it's still part of the Radiant Metropolis, it's the farthest out I've been so far.

I visited this locale on the occasion of the Kanamara Matsuri, and while it was certainly interesting, my main problem was that there were far too many humans around, and it was way too loud to be able to enjoy anything, so I didn't stick around for too long.

At first, I thought there were no foxes  to be found at this shrine, but then I  noticed the reliefs on the lanterns near the entryway.

I wasn't sure whether I should count this, but here it is anyway.  :)

The first of many,  Many, MANY Inari Shrines I should discover in Ōta-ku. The people in this part of Tokyo really  seem to love foxes.  ^_^

This one is actually the first of three Inari side Shrine found at Haneda Jinja (羽田神社"Wing Field Shrine").

By the way, the board with the cute little  fox illustration only tells of the Shrine's history. The text doesn't have anything to do with foxes at all.

This second of three Inari side Shrine found at Haneda Jinja (羽田神社"Wing Field Shrine"). This one is literally right next to Suzusame Inari Jinja.

Once again the cute little fox on the board is purely illustrative and has nothing to do with the text, which tells of the Shrine's history, date of establishment, founder, etc.

This last of three Inari side Shrine found at Haneda Jinja (羽田神社"Wing Field Shrine"). Aptly named, this one simply added "Inari" in the middle of its title.

Once again, this one is right next to the other two fox Shrines, although this time there is a non-fox Shrine in between. It is also a little bit unconventional because it does not have a Torii in front.
