A little Inari Shrine in a side road just off the main street.

Two slender foxes stand guard over this Shrine, and another four lurk inside.

An Inari Shrine atop a rather steep slope.

The road running up the slope is actually one of the few named roads in Japan, and it's actually called Koryou Inari Saka (向陵稲荷坂 "Defying Mound Inari Slope").

A tiny little Side Shrine of a Hachiman Shrine, and also the only Inari Shrine I should find in Tokyo's Kita-Ku (北区 "North Ward").

The foxes here are already quite weathered, and still they continue to perform their eternal duty as guardians of this shrine.

A little Side Shrine of Komagomehie Jinja (駒込日枝神社 "Pony Crowd Day Branch Shrine"), and the northernmost Inari Shrine I should find in Tokyo, as well as the first Inari Shrine I  should find in Toshima-Ku (豊島区 "Bountiful Island Ward").

This one actually consists of two tiny Shrines right next to each other, as well as many cute fox guardians surrounding them both.

A little Side Shrine of Sugamo Otori Jinja (巣鴨大鳥神社  "Duck Nest Big Bird Shrine"). Looks like there are not many standalone Inari Shrines in this part of the Radiant Metropolis.

Next to the already tiny, cat-sized shrine, there is an even tinier mouse-sized shrine, both of which are attended by a pair of foxes just the right size.

Yet another Inari Side Shrine next to a larger Shrine. A total of 25 little foxies stand watch here.

This one is located near Koshikawa Shokubutsuen (小石川植物園 "Little Stone River Botanical Garden"), which unfortunately has its sole entrance way  over on the other side.

The second Golden Fox Shrine I should find on my journey. Once again, I did not know that this was here, and came across it purely by chance.

If Anamori Inari Shrine (#48) was the big-ol grand-daddy of all Inari Shrines in Tokyo, than this one is the big-ol grand-mommy.

The number of Inari Side Shrines next to the already impressive Main Shrine is quite overwhelming, so expect it to fill the rest of this page, and then some of the next one.

As for the Main Shrine, not only does it have the customary fox guardians all around, but also a quite artisan fresco of two more foxes beneath the roof.

The first of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari.

Two cute little foxies watch over this Shrine just off to the right of the approach to the main Shrine.

The second of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari.

The area in front of the Main Shrine is comparable to a stone  garden filled with little fox statues and Shrines such as this one. Five foxies stand watch over it, one of which appears to have lost face.

The third of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari.

This one has intricate wood carvings of foxes integrated into the Shrine. As someone who has at least tried his hand at carving, I stand in awe of the effort that went even into such a little Side Shrine.

The fourth of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari.

Actually, these are two tiny Side Shrines so close to one another that I count them as one entry in this list. Three foxies  hang around right here, and more lurk in the vicinity. In the background, the fox glade can already be seen, but I will come to that one soon.

The fifth of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari.

This one is the last Shrine in front of Sawazoushi Inari, standing at the gateway to the fox glade, a little sheltered valley in the middle of the Radiant Metropolis that should harbour the remaining seven fox Side Shrines, as well as foxes hiding in the greenery. I wouldn't be surprised if it was home to live foxes as well.

After little more than two months in Japan, I now come across my 100th Inari Shrine featuring foxes. Quite a good ratio. I certainly don't regret having come here =^,^= .

The sixth of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari, and one of the seven Shrines inside the Fox Glade.

Standing closest to the entrance, this one marks the western terminus of the little Torii crossroads (with the entrance to the Fox Glade being to the south).

The seventh of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari, located within the Fox Glade.

This one marks the northern terminus of the little Torii crossroads. As for the eastern path, it leads deeper into the fox glade, and should bring  me to the remaining five fox Shrines.

The eigth  of the twelve vulpine Side Shrines of Sawazoushi Inari, located within the Fox Glade.

Deeper within the Fox Glade, little Shrines like this line the path left and right. It's incredible that such a sheltered place can exist  within the very heart of the Radiant Metropolis.
