Located in a meander of the Toyokawa (豊川 "Bountiful River"), on the island between it and the straight Toyokawa Housuiro (豊川放水路 "Toyokawa Bypass Channel").

Most of the land on this artificial fluvial island is farmland, but I do find this single fox Shrine with a single fox of unique make on it, as a Side Shrine of Toyoasa Jinja (豊麻神社 "Bountiful Hemp Shrine").

Incidentally, by now I have crossed over into the territory of Toyohashi, the boundary lying roughly with the Toyokawa Housuiro. Ironically, that means that the actual Toyokawa river only flows through a small part of the Toyokawa district further upstream.

A Side Shrine of Shinmeisha (神明社 "Divine Radiance Shrine") located in the heart of Toyohashi, and the final vulpine Shrine I should find on my stray from Toyokawa to Toyohashi, as well as in the entire Toyokawa/Toyohashi area.

The row of red Torii is already a telltale sign of this Shrine, and true enough, a pair of foxes is waiting for me there.

The first fox Shrine I should find during my time in Numazu, not far from Kanogawa (狩野川 "hunt plains river").

This is another one of those Shrines where the tod proudly wears his manhood for everyone to see. I personally appreciate these displays of anatomical correctness where creatures are displayed with all their parts as nature would have them rather than as humans would. It would be equally wrong to display them without ears or tail just because someone considers that inproper.

Not far away from the last Shrine, I come across a big Buddhist Temple filling out an entire block.

And within that spacious temple, I find a nameless fox shrine, attended by a pair of foxes.

A tiny Inari Shrine literally standing on a parking lot in front of a building. It doesn't even take up an entire space.

And yet, eight little foxies of various make are just sitting there, and no one would ever dare take even a single one away.

A small fox Shrine just off one of the main roads of Numazu that features many foxes inside, hence it earns the Bronze rank.

In fact, there's more foxes there than I can comfortably fit on a picture, so if you go there, then by any means do visit this foxy place of friendship.

Another Bronze Fox Shrine, this one being located quite some distance away, west along the coast of Suruga-wan (駿河湾 "Good Horse River Bay"). It is a Side Shrien of Kongouji (金剛寺 "Indestructible Truth Temple").

This is also the final fox Shrine I should find on my initial exploration ride of Numazu, featuring many many little foxies inside.

On 27-Jan-2019, I embarked on a crazy bike tour up to the foot of mount Fuji (that is, from sea level in Numazu to over 1000m of altitude) on a singe-gear bike. At this early point, I am only at about 70m of alitutde.

On that tour, I do not find a single fox Shrine until I left Numazu and reach the town of Nagaizumi (長泉 "Long Fountain"), where I come upon this little streetcorner Shrine with two little foxies hiding inside, one better hidden than the other.

Located literally 2 STEPs away from the previous Shrine, within viewing distance, there's this little Inari Shrine located in a patch of green by the side of the alley. The Shrine's name is written in a very stilized font and as a white relief on a white stone plaque, so I can't really make out the first two Kanji of it. In fact, I am only able to recognize the Kanji for Inari because I've already visited hundreds of other Inari Shrines, and have by now become intimitely familiar with these Kanji and their variations and stilizations.

Anyway, regardless of the name, there are many, many foxes waiting here, which makes this a Bronze Fox Shrine as far as I'm concerned. The foxies even have plenty of drink to share between them.

The very long and narrow town of Nagaizumi seems to be somewhat of a hotspot for fox Shrines. I didn't find any fox Shrines up to here, and now there's three in a row, and almost right next to one another.

This one is again 5 STEPs away from the last one. A little nameless Shrien in front of a house, attended by a pair of foxes. The still-wraped prayer plaques inside bear the names of those they were given to (I think), and look like the one I should get from Toyokawa Inari Tokyo Betsuin, so maybe this is a Toyokawa Inari Shrine? Who knows...

After that triad of vulpine Shrines, I continue for almost 7km until I find the next fox Shrine, this one is already at 170m of altitude, and located within the town of Susono (裾野 "Foot of the Mountain Field").

It's such a tiny small Shrine that I almost pass it by, but the red catches my eye. And true enough, as I approach it I find one little foxy watching over it and... well... one and two halves.

Located in the middle of a little island between three streets, this one is the fox Shrine closest tu Fuji-san which I should find, although the impressive stratovolcano is still over 20km away. Still, you can see it looming in the distance.

This kind of Shrine is also one of my favourite ones for obviosu reasons, so I before I go on I say a prayer to the Guardian Deity of Travellers, and am on my way.

Incidentally, I am at approximately 310m of altitude by now, which is also the furthest I can go with my single-gear bike. From here on out, the gradient is just to steep for that city-bike to surmount, but naturally, I won't let that stop me. So for the next few hours and the remaining 700m of altitude, I simply (or rather, "painfully") push my bike up all the way to the saddle between Fuji-san and Ashitakayama (愛鷹山 "Loving Hawk Mountain"). After that, I am in for a very satisfying downhill ride.

I shouldn't find any other fox Shrines on the flank of Fuji-san. I suppose volcanoes are no place for rice and foxes.

I should, however, find a number of fox Shrines within Fuji-shi, the city at the coast with view on the might volcano, this one being the first of them.

The view on Fuji-san is great from here, but personally, I prefer keeping a mountain between my home and the nearest active volcano.

For the last path of my ride, I have to travel eastwards along the coast, and not far from the last fox Shrine, I already find the next Inari Shrine waiting for me atop a little hillock overlooking the coastal city. Two foxes guard that Shrine.

Also, since it's atop a hillock, this Shrine has a great view on Fuji-san, as well as the significantly older and more eroded Ashitakayama, around which today's tour takes me. At this point, I am already three quarters around, but daylight is rapidly waning. Will I make it back to Numazu in time?
