The fifth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and yet another Shrine of the Line.

Many little foxies of sizes on through five stand watch over this one. At first, I count 22, but then I notice the tip of the ears of another foxie peeking through the viewport, making me wonder just how many more might be hidden inside.

The seventh of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and yet another Shrine of the Line.

This one is actually a bit preposed inrelation to the other Shrines of the Line, but going from left to right, it is still clearly a part of them with its two little foxies.

The eight of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and yet another Shrine of the Line.

I think  it was at this point that I realized I might run out of time and/or camera battery if I took too many pictures of all of the many tiny Shrines around  here, so I kind of started to hurry and only took multiple pictures of the remaining foxy Side Shrines if I really felt they warranted it.

Anyway, there's only one little lonely fox at this particular Shrine, but hey,  a fox is still a fox.

The ninth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and also the final Shrine of the Line.

This one is one of those Shrines that clearly services too many gods, and while most of the names make sense, I really don't know what to make of 走賀大明神 ("Hashiga Oomyoujin" = Running Joy Great Gracious Deity).

The tenth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja.

Following the Shrine of Too Many Names is the Shrine of Too Long a Name. This one is also the first Side Shrine standing outside of the initial line, with two foxes of respectable size standing next to the altar.

The twelfth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja.

I have an interesting problem with the name of this Shrine: Even though I can clearly make out the third kanji as a compound of the radicals 子 to the left, 刀 to the top right and 示 to the top right, I can't find that Kanji (or even a Kanji that looks somewhat like it) in any online dictionary. If you figure out what this kanji is, please let me know.

Either way, there are still two foxes here hiding behind the glass windows - which are a rare sight at Shrines of any size.

The fourteenth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and the first Side Shrine of the path, which has many little vulpine Side Shrines flanking it left and right as it leads to the biggest Side Shrine of Magatarou Inaka Jinja.

This one is flanked by what must be impressive size 10 fox guardians. Those are big enough that you need two hands to carry one.

The fifteenth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and another Shrine of the Path.

This one features a creative way to get all its repetitive names written out with a minimum of Kanji. Three of the names are written on the outside plaque, and the Inari-Name fittingly is written on the inside plaque, together with the five little foxies.

The sixteenth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and another Shrine of the Path.

The stone plaque above the Shrine is already too badly worn to read, and in my haste I should overlook the fact that the names of the deities venerated here are only stitched on silk within. I  should only realize as much when looking at the pictures, and regrettably find out that I have cut off half of the first kanji of both names. By now I am familiar enough with both Shrine Names and Kanji that I'm reasonably sure that the first Kanji of the right name is 荒, but the left one is not so easy. While I can see that it's lower part is the radical "心", there are over a dozen different Kanji that fit that description, and none of them is particularly prominent on Shrines (unlike 荒, which I saw so often that I eventually learned it as my 371st Kanji, even though it is a Jōyō kanji normally only taught in middle school after the students have already learned over a thousand more "basic" kanji).

Either way, a pair of foxies has made its home in this little place, so go them!

The seventeenth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and another Shrine of the Path.

This one is an excellent example of how the already confusing Japanese Kanji can be made even harder to read: First, instead of clear, definite strokes, you use a flowing script that makes it all but impossible to tell where one stroke ends and another begins, and what is a real stroke and what just a connector, and then you put it behind glass that reflects like Dragon once the sun is standing at a certain angle behind you. As such, I am only able to figure out the middle of the three names, although I can tell that all three of them end with 稲荷大明神.

Either way, a combination of golden and white foxes resides within, behind the ever-so-rarely-seen glass. So far, I have only seen glass in use at Shrines here at the Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja.

The eighteenth of many vulpine Side Shrines of Magatarou Inaka Jinja, and another Shrine of the Path.

This one is clearly going overboard with the superlatives, but at least it backs up its lofty claim with a size-10 fox guardian that is so big that it can't possibly fit inside the Tiny shrine. Also, I guess from here on out, if anyone asks me what the Best Inari Shrine in Japan is, the objectively true answer would be this one.

A very minimalistic Shrine with a very minimalistic name, but a pair of foxies watch over it anyway.
