Another Side Shrine of Najima Jinja, which I somehow failed to notice during my first visit.

As a result, this should become my birthday Shrine. Having read something about something supposedly happening at the Najima Jinja Inari Jinja on 4-Oct, I decide to check it out and pay it a visit, especially since it's not too far away from my home in Fukuoka by Bike. It turns out nothing is happening here after all (or maybe I missed it), but in compensation, I find this little extra Shrine as I venture in a little further (during my first visit I didn't have a lot of time to explore since it was already getting late, and I mistook the entrance Torii to Okunoin as an exit Torii of Inari Jinja, suspecting a path would lead down the Shrine mound on the other side).

A ratty old Shrine I should find during a daytrip to Dazaifu (太宰府 "Big Rule Office") with my host.

This one is sacred to Daikokuten (大黒天 "Great Black Sky") one of the Shichifukushin (七福神 "Seven Lucky Gods"), the guardian god of craftsmen and commercial success. Interestingly, he is petting a rat that is rather big in relation to him. It seems friendly though.

The first vulpine Shine I should find during above mentioned day trip to Dazaifu.

This one is located on top of a forested hill, with a row of Torii showing the way. It's only two little altars, but one of them is attended by a little golden fox. I can't remember if I've ever seen a golden fox like this before at a Shrine, so this might be the first instance of such.

A regionally famous Inari Shrine located on a hill overlooking Dazaifu. Since today is Taiiku-no Hi (体育の日 "Health and Sports Day"), there are quite a lot of people around.

Interestingly, the two foxes watching over this Shrine are not located near the front Torii, but next to a side Torii, and I should only come across them by chance upon returning from the following Side Shrine via a scenic route that of all the people present here today I alone seem to choose.

A Side Shrine at the back of Tenkai Inarisha.

This one features a little cave with lots of foxes inside. It reminds me a little bit of Amamori Inari Jinja back in Tokyo (#48 GOLDEN).

Crossing a little town valley to the south of the Kyushu National Museum, I arrive at this little Shrine which - while not an Inari Shrine - still features a number of foxes and vulpine Side Shrines.

It may not be enough to make it a Golden Fox Shrine, but maybe we can call it a Bronze Fox Shrine instead. =^,^=

Another Side Shrine of Ishiana Jinja, this one being located further up the mountain, next to the eponymous caves of the main Shrine.

This one is notably also an official Inari Shrine once again, and some of the foxes watching it look quite old and battered already, while others just seem to beg for gifts and donations, having even brought their own little baskets.

The final vulpine Side Shrine of Ishiana Jinja, and with it the last fox Shrine I should find in Dazaifu and today.

Interestingly, the fox  guardians of this Shrine are supported by a pair of Komainu. Or, is it already Shii-Saa?

The first vulpine Shrine I should find on my great eastern bike tour through the suburbs of Fukuoka. As such, these, too, should not fall within the official city boundaries of Fukuoka, despite me having visited them during my stay there. This particular one is located in the town of Hisayama (久山 "Old Story Mountain").

This one is located in one of the most unlikely places I've ever found a Shrine: In the parking lot of a Garden Shopping Centre.  I actually went around the whole block once before  I even got the idea that it might be inside. I wonder if that means it's for sale? =^,~'=

Getting up here is quite the climb, but I am rewarded with a pair of foxes at the top.

Another vulpine Shrine up a hillside in Sasaguri (篠栗 "Bamboo Grass Chestnut"), this one being a Side Shrine to Oimatsu Jinja (老松神社 "Old Pine Shrine").

At first, I don't see any foxes around here, but a very close look reveals a  pair of them cleverly hiding behind the bushels of laurel leaves.

The final vulpine Shrine I should find during my ride today, and a Side Shrine of the considerably larger Umi Hachimangu (宇美八幡宮  "Beautiful Heaven Hachiman Shrine").

This one is located at the southernmost turning point in Umi (宇美 "Beautiful Heaven"). In fact, the town of Dazaifu, where I was just a few day  before, is only about 6km away across the mountain to the south.

The first vulpine Shrine I should find on my ride to Shikashima (志賀島 "Aspiring Joy Island"), which lies to the west of Fukuoka in Hakata-Wan (博多湾 "much esteemed gulf"). I am able to reach it by bike by curtsey of it being tethered to the mainland by means of a causeway.

Ten Jinja is a  bit up the mountain on one of the small villages on the southwestern coast of the island, at the end of an overgrown path, yet my diligence is rewarded with this tiny Side Shrine housing a pair of little foxies.

Only a short distance away from Ten Jinja, I spot this little vulpine Shrine in the back garden of one of the nearby houses. I can't get all  that close, but a fox Shrine is a fox Shrine.

Incidentally this one should turn out to be the westernmost vulpine Shrine I'd visit in all of Japan. Although I should end up going further to the west... but more about that later.
