Apart from the Inari Shrine undergoing renovations, there is also a second Inari Shrine at Omiya Jinja. This one is freely accessible.

At least two dozen little foxes are hiding within, but it's hard to tell exactly how many because they're hiding really well.

Yet another Side Shrine of Omiya Jinja. This one is located right next to Omiya Inari Jinja, and actually part of the same structure, like a different room in a two-gods Shrine.

There are quite a number of Horse Shrines here in the Iwate prefecture, but this one is the most equine one of all. The reason behind this local abundance is that during the Tokugawa Shogunate, this area of Japan was designated to breed the finest horses of all of Japan. As a result, it developed a horse-affine identity that lasts until this day.

I should find this Shrine during yet another trip to Morioka, this time with two other helpers to whom I introduced the passion of Shrine-hunting.

Actually, my best friend Robert and I must have walked right past this Shrine during my last visit to Morioka in May. However, we did not find because it's cleverly hidden beneath an office buildings, a sole, unobtrusive stone marker on the road side the only hint to its existence unless you know exactly where to look.

This is also another of the "Protector" shrines after #24 Shouichii Mizumori Inari Daimyoujin (Water Protector), #48 Anamori Inari Jinja (Cave Protector), #131 Uramori Inari Jinja (Beach Protector) and #133 Muramori Inari Jinja (Village Protector). In fact, thus far, of all the 547 Shrines and Temples I've visited thus far, the only Shrines bearing the "Protector"-Kanji 守 were Inari Shrines with foxes. I guess foxes must make good protectors.

The last Inari Shrine I should find during my trip to Morioka, my stay in Appi-Kogen, and in the Tohoku Region.

During my entire stay in the Tohoku and Hokkaido region, I found only a few more vulpine Shrines than I did in Tokyo on a single day (both 19-4-2018 and 26-Apr-2018 featured 25 vulpine Shrines each). In exchange, there were live foxes to be found. From here on out, however, the vulpinely scarce times should gradually come to an end.

The only vulpine Shrine I should find in Niigata. Had I stayed longer, there would definitely have been more around for me to visit (I checked). But alas, I stayed only for a single night on my trip to the nearby island of Sado.

There are two foxes standing watch outside,  and another two hiding deep within the Shrine, which, ironically, is only very poorly illuminated.

I should find this one as the result of a highly spontaneous stray around Naoetsu. Transferring from the ferry from Sado to the Railway, I had some (but not much) extra time, so I decided to go on a very brief exploration tour around the immediate surroundings, carrying all my belongings on my back. That's when I run into this little Inari Shrine, that is actually a Side Shrine of the much larger Yasaka Jinja  (三柱神社 "Three Pillars Shrine").

Two very weathered foxes stand guard outside, and only the most attentive observers will be able to spot the other two foxes, which are hidden inside.

The place I should stay in at Yudanaka should sure keep me busy. As such, it should only be over a week later that I finally get a chance to explore the surroundings.

I should come across this little vulpine Shrine completely  by chance - or maybe the paw of the goddess has guided me. Originally, I was planning to take a different route, but then, on a whim, I decided to turn into a  particular side street that would lead me directly to this little Shrine.

The second and already last vulpine Shrine I should find in Yudanaka.

This one is well hidden in a stretch of greenery dividing two parts of the city. Judging by the cobwebs in the Torii, it has been some time since it has seen patronage.

Actually, on this green hill I should find wild Japanese Macaques - also known as Snow Monkeys. At first, I am careful not to scare them away, but then more and more arrive, and I decide to make a strategic withdrawal before they try to grab my shopping bag.

As for the name of this Shrine... I might be mistaken about the last Kanji (汞 "Mercury"), but the sign is so badly weathered that I can't properly make out the strokes, and I think this is still the closest approximate match.

On my one exploration day in Nagano, I should find more vulpine Shrines than in the entire last month combined. This is the first of them.

This one is a Side Shrine of Nanase Kannonji (七瀬観音寺 "Seven Currents Kannon Temple"), and a total of ten little foxies are hiding within.

Quite possibly the foxiest Shrine in all of Nagano, and definitely the foxiest one I should find  during my stay here. I easily get a fox-gasm just being at this place.

The white porcelain foxes at the main altar - both inside and out - are also clearly the biggest ones of this typical design that I've seen thus far.

I should find this absolutely lovely little Inari Shrine in a tiny backroad of Toigoshomachi (問御所町 "Honourable Question Place Town").

The foxies are hidden deep within, behind not one but two sets of bars, and a bit of wire mesh, but if you look closely you can still make out a total of 14 of them.

The last vulpine Shrine I should find before going into the Temple-District of Nagano, but certainly not the last one I should find in the entire city. Disappointingly, though, I should not find any fox Shrines in the district of Kitsune-Ike (狐池 "Fox Pond").

The northernmost fox Shrine I should find in Nagano, just at the northwestern end of the valley, before turning east towards Jouyama Doubutsuen (城山動物園 "Castle Mountain Zoo"), and eventually back south again.

This one is literally squeezed into a tiny little backyard, and is actually angled at a 90° angle to the path leading there from the Torii.

A very nice vulpine Shrine I should find off the side of a park path, overlooking Nagano city from a little ledge.

Interestingly, some of the little fox statues are gilded, giving this place a special touch.
