Hey everyone, I'm writing a story about a human girl who is sent into the world of the kitsune after damaging a shrine.
The basic plot is that she shows up right when the Nogitsune and Myobu are at war, and she's trying to get them to ally with eachother to take out a kitsune who plans on killing off both sides and creating a 'perfect race'. ((Cliche story I know, but I've got to work with what my mind gives me.))
Anywho, are there any specific things I should include in the story? I've already included:
Hoshi no Tama (Kitsune balls or orbs)
Nogitsune/Myobu clash
The myth that when it rains on a clear sky, foxes are getting married.
If you can think of anything else, please let me know. I've been thinking of including other spirits like Tanuki and Nekomata as well, but how would the kitsune react to them?

Sounds like an interesting story. ^^ I know there are thirteen different elements of kitsune: Celestial, Void, Spirit, Forest, Mountain, River, Ocean, Fire, Sound, Time, Thunder, Wind, and Earth. Celestial and Void are the prime elements. I know that the most common to be Nogitsune are Void, Wind, Spirit, and Thunder. Although some Celestial are known to corrupt if they feed on too much knowledge from the temples, shrines, and books they tend to feed on to keep a solid form on the mortal plane. As for any specific details about kitsune that you already probably know besides the elements, I'm not sure. I know that kitsune can be destroyed by Oni, dragons, and very rarely, but possibly, magical weapons. Though with the magical weapons, from what I've read, can only banish the kitsune, as well as priests and sorcerers, but not destroy. I know they cannot harm humans, unless the humans stray from the path of rightousness, hence why nogitsune will try to corrupt humans for the sole purpose of being able to harm them. Kitsu-bi(foxfire) can be present on any kitsune and nogitsune, and can be used as weapons or to create multiple illusions. Also, Kyubi, and sometimes other lesser kitsune, can make the illusion of creating forests, a city, or even a whole other realm, if they are powerful enough. That's about all I know for now. Hope this helps, if you already don't have that in your story.

Hmmm... perhaps I could use the different types of idea to expand my characters further, and that fact that they can't harm humans is really great, It'll come in extremely useful (although it does conflict with the ending... however I feel like I know how I can get around that.)
Oni and dragons are pretty big threats to the kitsune, so I may want to find some way to put those into the story.
Thanks for the ideas, Reiko. Anyone else got more? :D

Well I only skimmed what has been said but as for that kitsune book thing, you will only find rumors in it>.> Now if you are writing a book based off those rumors then be my guest, if you want true lore then come to me. As was said before there are many elements kitsunes can control including fire, water, earth, shadow, lighting, light, ice, wind, and possible some I can't think of right now, but that's only the tip of the ice burg in kitsune lore.
