Fox Magic RPG

:)
In May, I'm hoping to finally have an RPG published through my company.  Specifically, my first game will be Fox Magic, where you play one of five types of kitsune, and can either serve the Jewel Maiden, or Inari (or, really, choose to serve neither).

The game, so far, is about 30 pages in length for the rules, and is pretty quick to get a grasp of.   Players have a lot of control over the game, the GM mostly acts as a moderator to ensure the game's fair, and to give the PCs a challenge from time to time.

Artwork is being done by Max Blackrabbit, gNaW, and Kaffeine Kitty, as well as some bonus art from a friend of mine in the Phillipines.  I'm really looking forward to having this game premier at CanGames, and then be sold openly in PDF format and in printed format.  :)

I'm actually considering having my own MUCK converted to host/run Fox Magic, I haven't decided yet.

Well, the RPG itself is tabletop pen-and-paper-and-dice RPG sort of stuff.  If I do run it online as well, it would be a MUCK (text-based).

Actually, no.  The idea behind it is you play a fox who has 'awakened', becoming a kitsune.  You start off with one (or if the GM allows it, two) tails, and from one to two (or two to four) fox powers.  As you go out and do things, you slowly gain tails and prestige.

It isn't a given you can shape shift, that's one of the things you can pick up, but it isn't a 'mandatory' power.  I've put in some mention of other creatures the foxes can go up against as well, and I'm only now getting artwork in for the book.

But I'll let you all know when I actually have it up and published.  :)

It sounds really cool...I've never really tried a tabletop RPG before, but it always seemed kind of interesting to me...Maybe this game would be a good place to start!

Who said that they'd always be friends?

Sorry I've not answered in so long, I've been really busy working on the game.  CanGames, the local gaming convention, was on this last weekend (May 15th to 17th), and I promoted Fox Magic there.

The game's currently in layout, setting up for an actual print run.  We'll be doing a limited run of 500 copies to see in soft cover format, and the game looks like it will be about 65 or so pages in length.

Once that's done, we'll see how the game sells.  If it does well, I'll do expansions for it (tanuki, neko-mata, okami, etc) and flesh things out even further.

I'm thinking of setting up a pre-order list, so I can tell who is interested, and that way have an idea of initial sales.

Tentatively, the game is scheduled to cost about $25.  It will have artwork by Stephie Stone and by Malcolm Earle.

It should be printing in June, and released late June or early July if all goes well.

This would actually be an interesting primer to RPGs... since it gives players a lot more control of the game than most RPGs do, you can play in nearly any genre you want, from anime to 'realistic', to anything in between.   :)

The game is slowed a bit - we did a playtest of it (which went very, very well), but I'm adding a Japanese bestiary to it to give people an idea of some of the creatures which can exist there.  Damn, but some of those critters are warped.  o.o;
