Title: My new droid.
Post by: Pooka on Jan 24 2014, 11:45 AM
Remember my Galaxy Fame (oh wait, you don't remember, that's Kitsuria forums I'm speaking about)? It doesn't exist anymore. Say hello to my Galaxy Win.

Ahh finally. A screen so big and clear, a 1.2GHz quad core processor, 1GBs of RAM, and an Adreno GPU. Quite fast for nearly all of the games and Android, and doesn't have the crashing apps problem, unless said app was to be programmed badly (Twitter, ouch). Comes with around 5GBs of available internal storage, of course the trademark Duos dual-SIM, and is quite fast to operate the Chrome app without much slowness thanks to the quad core awesomeness its given.

Is that an offshoot of their S series? I've been with Windows Phone for a bit, but I miss all the things that could be done with Android.

Sort of. The S5 looks surprisingly similar to this one. Basically its your typical Samsung droid without the features environment. For one, it lacks stuff like NFC, quick settings, auto-brightness, multi-window mode... some fancy features in other words. The camera is 5MP, which basically means 2560x1920 maximum resolution for captured photos and 720x480 for videos. The apps don't crash anymore with me, unless they are badly programmed, like Twitter for instance.

If you're looking for performance at a cheap price, maybe the Galaxy Win isn't too bad an option for you. If you're looking however at fancy features Samsung implements in their S series, or even a properly working custom ROM for it, or an upgradable Android (its 4.1.2 only), then its probably not a good choice for you. Which kind of choice are you?

I think Windows 8 is better than Windows Phone though. Windows 8 has the open desktop environment established since the 2000s and maybe before, plus the closed Windows Phone environment, compared to only the closed Windows Phone environment.

My last phone was an S3, and I change roms like I change clothes. Went with the windows phone just to try something different. Will probably go back to android once my upgrade is ready. Not sure if it'll be the S5 or if something else might catch my eye.

Hit that S5. Unlike even phones like the Win with the potential inside it, the stupid creeps at Cyanogenmod are going to go "bawwww!" and port their thing immediately over there. Plus you get that fingerprint scanner, the nice screeny, and the 16MP camera. Essentially the S5 is going to be ages further than the iPhone. One last thing, it captures 4K video at 30fps.

Probably going to grab that, unless something else catches my eye. A lot could change in two months. :)

Who knows however? Currently the S5 feels like a lord of smartphones. It sure will beat the crap out of the iPhone.
"We haven't had the technology to make our screens bigger!" -Tim Cook, non-accurate quote.

And obviously every single Android phone already has the technology to make supersized screen sizes and resolutions. However, let's see if HTC really got a "Buyer's remorse" sort of phone in case the S5 turned out to be pale compared to HTC's master plan. But at the moment, the S5 is just too good of a smartphone.
