Title: Windows Longhorn official name unveilled
Post by: Runefox on Jul 22 2005, 03:07 PM
:nerd: Today, Microsoft released the official commercial name for their new operating system, code-named Longhorn. What is the name?

Windows Vista (http://money.cnn.com/2005/07/22/technology/microsoft_vista/index.htm?cnn=yes)

And that's where we're lost. Wha? Vista?

What features does Vista bring to users? As far as I can gather, it provides:

-A tweaked interface (pinstriping windows like Apple does)
-"Avalon" 3D accelerated windows (supposedly available to XP when it's released)
-Internet Explorer 7 (also available to Windows XP users, a tabbed version of Internet Explorer)
-.NET support built-in
-A sidebar with extensible widgets

While it's worth mentioning that it also supports changing the volume outputs of each individual program, that seems to be about it.
