The bad thing about this, though, is that Sega Saturn emulation hasn't progressed far enough, yet. Lots of these emulators are incomplete, run slowly, or you just can't get them configured properly. So at this point, I think our only option is to burn the X-Treme ISO to a CD, and play it on an actual Saturn. But of course, you would have to get it modded for that...

it's a hard system to program for because of the complex hardware it's made up of, thats why saturn emulation never got far. not even the most potent of computers today have the processing power to make any games run smoothly...

you don't need to mod the system, you can burn the ISO on a CD-R and perform the swap trick (http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2004/12/learn-how-to-perform-sega-saturn-swap.html).

edit:and this can't be the e3 demo, this is probably the jade gully test engine...

I may have to try that swap trick, sometime. And yes, this is the build that was playable at E3, back in '96. At least according to one of the staff members who worked on X-Treme (I forget which one, but it might've been Chris Coffin).

Gah, if only I had a Saturn.  So there aren't any emulators at all that'll run games at a playable speed?

You're right, it IS that one. That is the gameplay engine, yes, but that's the one they made available to the public years ago. I remember one of the staff members saying that it was the boss engine, and Nack the Weasel ended up getting scraped from that build right before E3. I'll point you out to the source, as soon as I find it.

so the source code to the actual functional engine is about to go public?

maybe a proper real fanmake+revival of it can happen for once

hell let's get sega involved and they make another of their dinky phonegames out of it
