Aside from the (rather useless) 3D effect, this version of Sonic 1 has the Spin Dash:

I gotta say, it's a pretty weird coincidence how this and the Taxman and Stealth versions are being worked on at the same time. As someone over at Sonic Retro pointed out, Sega of America and Sega of Japan probably worked on these without each others' knowledge.

Meh, I don't really care all that much about it, to be honest. Sure, it may be better than that garbage GBA port by a longshot, but it's nothing compared to the one that Stealth and The Taxman made. I'm still waiting for that to get a console release.

unfortunately at this rate i doubt they'll hit consoles anyway, the original genesis games are already on everything else

i don't think sega intended to greenlight and release sonic 1 retro to completely replace its genesis counterpart.
sonic CD retro on the other hand has a reason to exist, to replace the original because:
- the gemscolle port of the PC version is poor
- sega can't pull off a sega CD emulator

That certainly didn't stop the 2009 iPhone release (http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_%28iPhone%29) from getting replaced.

it's just one exception, still dosen't mean it should completely supercede sonic 1 genesis on the digital market

i want sonic 1 retro outside mobile territory as bad as you do, but...stuff

just confirmed, sega and m2 have another set in the works

lets hope we don't have to wait a thousand years after the japan releases for these

the FZ2 system 16 remake is getting its first re-release 6 years after its release in the japan-only sega ages FZ collection for the ps2

and with a "link loop land" alternate game

shame sega's a dickhead in localization these days, seems we'll be expecting the next batch on the holidays again

sonic 2 3D among others expected to hit the west this summer (as in sept...)

http://nintendoeverything.com/3d-streets-of-rage-2-3d-gunstar-heroes-3d-sonic-the-hedgehog-2-heading-west-this-summer/

just give me a restored and completed HPZ and maybe i'll forgive them about not releasing the retro remasters on nintendo platforms

with treasure getting in on the sega 3D classics, perhaps 3D dynamite headdy soon?

...That's all this version has to offer in terms of new content? Seriously? I guess I should have expected as much, seeing how the only "extra" their version of Sonic 1 had to offer was the Spin Dash and nothing more. So you know what? Screw this. Now that I finally have an Android, I'll be getting the Stealth/Taxman remake, instead.

M2 clearly dosn't give as big a shit about sonic as they do with fantasy zone and sega's 80s era arcade games

- developed a 16-bit version of FZ2 from scratch on actual sega sys16 arcade hardware, only needing a RAM expansion
- FZ1 opa-opa bros adds the master system version bosses and a new mode with upa-upa
- re-released the FZ2 sys16 remake on the 3DS with improvements and upa-upa's own mode as link loop land

vs.

- 3D sonic 1's imperfect spin dash (badniks still hurt him when spin dashing when they should be destroyed)
- 3D sonic 2 just at this point being being a mere vanilla ROM with a crude stereoscopic 3D effect slapped in and worse than that of 3D sonic 1

with the love M2 gives FZ and their sega emulators, sega would've easily had them do sonic 4 and/or the next big 2D sonic on genesis hardware, and the outcome would've turned out for the better

so basically the talent is there and they could match or exceed that of what a couple ascended sonic fanboys (no offense intended) can deliver, but if only sega allowed it

one among M2's best talent died last year, so it's looking like the end of the line for the sega 3D lineup
