Strangely enough, he didn't look anything like that in the game.

You know, while we're on the subject of Bowser, did you know that he (somehow) managed to win the "Best Video Game Villain of All Time" award in the gamer's edition of the Guinness World Records? There are tons of better villains out there (even within the Mario series), and how a crappy villain like him managed to win such an award, I'll never know.

bowser is just more memorable

Yeah, "memorable" in the sense that he comes up with the same boring, repetitive plans almost every time.

Well... it seems as if Bowser doesn't give up, even if he were to use the same troopers in different levels, not to mention he doesn't change his final goal. Oh wait, not much to see that makes him any better than Eggman.

Back on the subject, his design looks pretty much nothing like his SMB1 counterpart either, compared to the final look which is a little better.

It's not about Bowser "using the same troopers"; it's that just about all the plots he ever comes up with have little to no originality, where all they mostly consist of, in a nutshell, is kidnapping Peach and waiting for Mario and/or Luigi to show up. Even then, the only reason he ever kidnaps the princess is because he has a crush on her. Big deal. Sure, 3D World was an exception, but it only took him like, what? Twenty-eight years?

I can't stress it enough how overrated he is. Every one of the RPG villains had him outclassed. Sure, most of them kidnapped Peach also, but unlike Bowser, they didn't do it just for the hell of it. They had actual, legitimate motives for doing so, such as powering wish-granting devices (which could only grant wishes from those who are pure of heart), unleashing ancient demons, creating dimensional voids in the sky to destroy the universe, and other things like that. Despite the fact that every one of them were more evil, and generally more competent villains, every one of them are considered expendable (with King Boo being a rare exception), while Bowser continues hogging the spotlight and getting all this special treatment. Don't even get me started on the way they shafted Antasma in Dream Team.

Hmm, right. There are not much points that I could speak of from the side of your argument... maybe unless one.

Peach would only be pure hearted or something like that in the Paper Mario games. But I guess she's pretty much a corrupt politican who just... perhaps wants some action with Bowser while encouraging Mario to waste his time. What are the gains seems to be unknown, other than Mushroom Kingdom fame, but I might have a detailed explanation for all of that mess.

i give you the mushroom trip theory, the mario series timeline from 1985 onwards is a big ongoing mushroom trip

how else would mario go from saving his original lady-friend from an ape, to sewer pest control, to boxing referee, to demolition, and finally to saving a princess from an overgrown turtle in a fantasyland of mushroom people and pipes?
