Title: right arrow key is teh b0rk
Post by: Yerix on Feb 10 2007, 08:48 PM
ok, my right arrow key is not responding somehow.

but judging from how it looks under the key itself, it's kinda dirty, so I'm thinking of buying an air spraycan to blow the filth off, and I'm here to ask for what I should do if it's still not working after the cleaning takes place.

and don't tell me to get another keyboard, because this is a laptop, when the frickin' keyboard is actually part of this hardware instead of being a seperate piece of equipment you plug the comp into.

so??

I'd say cleaning it should work.

If not, you might have to take it to a licensed repairperson, to get the keyboard replaced. Yes, it is possible to replace laptop keyboards, if you know what you're doing. Though, don't ask *me* how to do it yourself, because I don't quite know either. And I dread opening up laptops. ^^'

So, if cleaning doesn't help, then you'll need a professional to replace the keyboard.

i don't like people other than myself touching my comp except when there's a major problem, so plan A's gotta work, otherwise I'll just get a USB keyboard and use that then.

edit:speaking of USB keyboards, check this out:

Sorry Yerix, but I'm going to say just what Sammy did. If cleaning up the key and what you can access after removing the right arrow button doesnt solve the problem, there are chances its the contact that doesnt work any more when you press the key. And I really do not recommend opening your laptop unless you did that before and know exactly whats inside and how everything works. So if cleaning the key doesn't work, you will have to take it to someone for repairs or call a friend that knows how to do that if you have one (I understand you dun like others touching your comp as I dun like that either). But yes, if an circuit is broken, it might be the only way.

looks like the chances of it's circuit being busted is likely, i cleaned the damn thing with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab last night and let it dry overnight to no avail.

i'll be sticking to my USB keyboard idea until further notice, but your help is appreciated.

edit:well, lookie what we have here!! upon further inspection, the culprit of the problem could be that the rubber dome under the key itself is worn out. if so, professional help or a separate substitute keyboard will be needed....
