i don't know but if you want to play PAL on a NTSC or NTSC on a PAL Tv the problem is NTSC is 60Hz and PAL is 50Hz

i Have a NES emulator and when i switch between PAL/NTSC the display goes up and down

the best solution would be a MODChip but im not a pro in these things
you'll probably need a converter to switch between 50 and 60Hz maybe some BIOS for modchip can do that
The best place to find MODChip BIOS is the IRC chanels ;) they will be happy to give it to you

I found a program named Zapper2000 to patch regional blocks
get your CD ISO patch it then burn it on a CD-ROM (No -RW or anything else)
Tuto HERE (http://www.ultimatepsp.fr/forums/les-tutoriaux-des-membres/9612-convertir-un-iso-psx-pal-et-ntsc.html) in French

I should try a PAL CD on my NTSC PSOne it's not even modchipped and it read burned CDs
i've read somewhere that SCEA legalised the Modchip in PSX consoles

You put the Burned Boot disk in your PSX
Select the Video Mode your CD will be
Select Start Game
Put your CD then press ANy Button to boot the CD

For USA TV : Direct DL (http://k001.sitesled.com/snesorama.us/Boot%20CD%20%5BUSA%5D.rar)
For JAP TV : Direct DL (http://k001.sitesled.com/snesorama.us/Boot%20CD%20%5BJAP%5D.rar)
For PAL TV : Direct DL (http://k001.sitesled.com/snesorama.us/Boot%20CD%20%5BPAL%5D.rar)
Password archive
http://snesorama.us

here the LINK (http://snesorama.us/board/archive/index.php/t-3539.html)

Work perfectly on an emulator ;] sorry I have no more CD-ROM so i can't try it on my PSOne
I tryed on the emulator i said boot in PAL and i've putted a NTSC CD and there was 2 unusual Black border (Because Pal as 625 line instead of 525)

I Hope that helped ;]

no modchipping, taking that 32-bit bastard apart and soldering some thingy in is too risky

by the way mine turns out to be one of the earlier SHCP-100x models (a 1001). it has that parallel port in the back that i hear you can plug a cheat device into, possibly something with a freeloader to defeat the region lock along those lines?
i've heard that stuff like gamesharks plug back there, and maybe a few modchips

Omg the 1st model ? put it in a well ventilated area because it'll overeat [the len and the powersuply are almost stuck togeter]
I own a SCPH-101 here [the small one] and my friend have a SCPH-7xxx [last generation of Gray one]

you can always try the swapdisc metod you need an original disk of course  ^_^

My PSOne isn't Modded and it run burned games so well i don't know why ill play whit it a little  :)

oh shit i'm well aware of the overheating issue

i have it suspended sitting by its sides on the rim of a basket i have just sitting around, so its bottom middle area isn't touching the surface, and have a fan blowing towards it

looking back on my quest to find a reliable method to defeat the regional lock...the disc swap trick, or at least some variations of it, risk damage to the drive motor. among these I see the CD player menu disc swap trick as among the safest...
things like game hunter cartridges and breaker pro bootdiscs seem to work as freeloaders

with the gameshark you should be able to play Japan game on USA console or USA games on Japan console

but for PAL you`ll still have 625line in Y scale and a 50Hz frenquecy so it`ll cause problems in that case you`ll need to rip your cd on your computer and patch it then burn it (use swap disc trick or have a MODChip) or get a NTSC version for legal personal use witch is not the case for me =D

I`ve found an interesting article on how to do it with a gameshark HERE (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/916392/8601)

you got your imported games ? did you found a way to make them work ?

this is what i did
1. plug gameshark into parallel I/O port
2. tape a cutted off end of a pencil topper on the little button at the top right corner of the CD compartment so it holds it down. it not only holds it down but allows the lid to be shut
3. insert domestic disc
4. power on. gameshark menu comes up, go to "explorer" and then "use enhancement CD"
5. disc reads, then stops when the GS detects its not an enhancement CD, swap domestic disc with the foreign disc
6. return to the GS main menu, start game
7. REGION LOCK BYPASS

so i bought a PS1 for a friend the other day
problem is that it's an SCPH-7501, a later model (it was the earliest model the secondhand game shop guys had), apperently not as exploitable as my 1001 as my gameshark trick dosen't seem to work on it

i'm considering this as an alternate method:

HERE (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation#Liste_des_mod.C3.A8les_de_PlayStation) a useful table with all the version of bios model and caracteristic of PSX

the one i own it's the SCPH-101 [the newest one that came out at the same time of the playstation 2]
non-modded and read burned disc so i could use the regional bypass disc and play them

i really need to know if ganbare goemon oedo daikaiten has any protection on it, mainly what prevents a successful disc swap and/or anti-modchip, that I hear can shut out gamesharks

it was a 2001 release and that was when the newer PSone units were at retail

Well i dont know but if you put a modchip you can alway interuptor on each wires of the modchip so when a game block it put all of them to off otherwise put them all to on  :)
as for the game shark it shoulnt be blocked bexause you can always generate a code that will remove the protection but may cause instability of the game
