After I installed DirectX 9.0d on a friend's Pentium II 366 with Windows 2000 Pro, An error box came up looking similar to this:
Explorer
An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway,
click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program, click Close.
You will lose information you entered since your last Save.[/span]
with an Ignore and Close button.
Clicking "Ignore" does nothing, when I click close, I get this error message:
[span style=\'font-family:MS Sans Serif\']This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.[/span]
with a Close and Details button.
I click "Details" and I see this message:
[span style=\'font-family:Fixedsys\']EXPLORER.EXE has caused a general protection fault
in module DDRAW.DLL at 000c:00000296.
I know for a fact that DDRAW.DLL is the DLL file for DirectDraw...
Restarting didn't help, and I can't find a way to revert to 9.0c!

I kinda remember getting something like this after installing IE5 on my old comp, but it was due to a registry error (Which I always got on that comp) screwing up the installation. All I could do was reformat the hard drive.
All I can suggest is temporarily sticking the HD in a working comp, backing up everything you want backed up and reformatting :(

Maybe I'll put 98SE in instead of dealing with 2000...
EDIT: I finally got 98SE in the machine. It doesn't have ANY problems anymore!
