The cake's not a lie.
Noclip on the last level, travel to room with cake. Om nom nom nom nom

There's a more elaborate way to do it but this way is easier.

Here's a secret:

You know why you have to incinerate the Companion Cube? Because the cake is inside. It just needs to be baked :P

There's a way to get into the cake room and outside where you can see the destroyed wreckage that is GLADOS.

Actually, 4,000 degrees Kelvin (the temperature that the cube can withstand) is very close to the temperature of the surface of the bloody-damn SUN (5,800 Kelvin). Therefore, the furnace could not possibly be that hot without destroying the facility...

Science!

We're talking about gravity guns and portals.
The fact that they are playing with technology relating to blackholes.. I wouldn't be suprised. (Time travel too if you count the first Half-Life2 episode 0)

-------
For those who have Portal.. try these:

Portal Flash mappack. (Just like the Flash version, but 3D!)

Portal Prelude (Unofficial mod, which Valve was going to make the same..)

For those who don't have Portal.   Try the online flash version (2d version).
