well, time to go collect more tears from the MML3 beggars again
-
Yeah, I heard about this over at Protodude's Rockman Corner (http://rockman-corner.com), and I can't say I'm very impressed with what I've seen. Thankfully, this is not the same 25th anniversary game that they said they were revealing in December. Knowing them, though, it'll most likely be Mega Man 11, with the 8-bit artstyle reused again (which I have mixed feelings about).
-
I was going to type out how disappointing this was and why this was a bad idea, but I just get too depressed or angry thinking about how much of a letdown Capcom has been lately to even convey my feelings on the matter. :( 100k + people signed a petition for MML3 and those are CONFIRMED SALES of a game that would be 40+ bucks compared to an iPhone title that would gross maybe 20-30 dollars per unit? JUST SAYIN
-
they're butthurt over imafune leaving
mega man universe's cancellation at the end of march 2011 was the omen to MML3's cancellation a few months after and ultimately to capcom's degradation
-
Speaking of Mega Man Universe, I honestly cannot bring myself to shed even a single tear over its cancellation. I thought that game was a major kick in the nuts, since Capcom mislead the fanbase into thinking that they were going to do something new and original, which would cater to all sides of the fandom, but as it turns out, it was nothing more than another Mega Man 2 rehash, and as you can probably tell from my post in this (https://kitsuria.net/games-and-tech/the-overrated-games-topic/) topic, I consider it to be one of the most overrated games of all time, and as such, I'm pretty biased against it.
-
*DOUBLEPOST*
BREAKING NEWS: Capcom has absolutely nothing special planned for the 25th Anniversary of the Mega Man series. (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2012/09/dont-count-on-new-game-for-25th.html) Even though I already half expected something like this to happen, it still makes me want to rage.
-
at this rate i can see megaman leaving consumer game systems for good, he'll just have dinky phonegames and the occasional cameo in other capcom works from now on
at least that's what happened to ganbare goemon, hasn't had a proper game since 2004, and as of 2009 to now we've got nothing but a couple pachislot machines...and mr. goemon's overseas release on x360

http://www.rockman-corner.com/2012/09/rockman-xover-tokyo-game-show-trailer.html (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2012/09/rockman-xover-tokyo-game-show-trailer.html)
Get a load of the number of dislikes that trailer has compared to the likes. I've never, ever seen that happen before when a new Mega Man game was announced. I (and many others) already assumed Rockman X-Over was going to be a piece of crap anyway, but that trailer has proved that point even further. Honestly, even Mega Man Universe looked better, and that's saying a lot. Actually, no, scratch that... I've seen (and probably played) pirated games that were better than this piece of garbage.

xover might as well have been one of those horrid chinese knockoff games that end up on the smartphones and etc

So, Rockman Xover was released yesterday in Japan, and here's a full video of the game in action:

I'm about four days late on this one, but Mega Man Unlimited (http://megaphilx.com), after five years of development, has finally been completed and released. Even though this game is fanmade, I consider it to be the real 25th anniversary game, since it's a good one that had a lot of time and effort put into it, unlike a certain piece of garbage iPhone game, which (thankfully) won't be making its way overseas.
In other news, the Game Boy versions of Mega Man II- V, along with Mega Man X-Treme 1 and 2 are finally (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/07/every-game-boy-mega-man-game-coming-to.html) getting Virtual Console re-releases. It's about time. You think they would have done this from the start after adding Dr. Wily's Revenge, but they instead chose to add the NES games, which have been re-released a million times already. Well, all except for Mega Man 6 in Europe, but that's besides the point.
-
also notable:
- obscure GG version of mega man has been on the 3DS eshop for a while now
- mega man on the SSB43DS/WiiU roster
- archie sonic megaman crossover comic
- mega man SDCC announcement
think capcom's getting him out of the toilet?
-
Not entirely, but it's a start, I suppose.
- obscure GG version of mega man has been on the 3DS eshop for a while now
It has? Since when? I've been checking the eShop just about every Thursday, and I don't remember seeing it there. Plus, I don't recall it being announced anywhere. Sites like Protodude's Rockman Corner and The Mega Man Network (http://themmnetwork.com) would've been all over it.
As for the Comic Con announcement, I'm keeping my expectations low for two reasons. Number one, it probably won't even be game-related. Number two, even if it is, it probably won't be anything worthwhile. Mega Man Universe, which was also announced at Comic Con three years ago, is a prime example and even that ended up getting cancelled.
-
About that Game Gear title... Someone over at Protodude's Rockman Corner pointed out that the game has gotten an ESRB rating (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34758), indicating that it'll be making its way to the eShop soon, but isn't there as of yet. I recently downloaded a ROM of this game after not playing it in about ten or eleven years (as far as I remember), and it's...not all that great. It has a solid gameplay engine, I'll give it that, but as far as originality is concerned, it's severely lacking it, even more than most of the Game Boy titles. At least those had original layouts, actual Wily Castle stages, complete with new bosses. I wish the same could be said about the Game Gear game. When that one appears on the eShop, I'll most likely be giving this one a pass. That is, unless I have some leftover points to spend.
-
crap, i checked, still TBA in the US
then again some of the other GG games are taking forever so...
-
look what else ol' capcpom is killing now:

If you think that's bad, then check out the latest news regarding Rockman Xover:
http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/07/capcoms-considering-bringing-rockman.html (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/07/capcoms-considering-bringing-rockman.html)
Yes, you read that right. They're actually entertaining the thought of bring that piece of garbage overseas. As I said somewhere in the comments section, I wouldn't touch that game with a ten-foot pole even if I had an iPhone.

while the world waits for M#9, imafune keeps us occupied by bringing out yet another megaman analogue

Coincidentally (or not), that game shares its name with a Mega Man X enemy (http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Gun_Volt).
In any case, it seems like a pretty interesting game. I'll definitely be sure to give it a try when it's released.

except in japanese, imafune's latest brainchild is spelled ガンヴォルト while the enemy is spelled ガンボルト
ボ and ヴォ are interchangable when using a V sound

If you've seen anything on the mobile [phone] games market in Japan, you'd know that it's insanely popular. And with Capcom being very desperate for money (though granted, Monster Hunter 4 was successful enough to bail them out of near-bankruptcy), they're chasing after the mobile market in hopes of striking gold. Problem is, it's not very likely. The mobile market is so oversaturated with games that it's only a matter of luck as to whether or not a company can achieve success on it. It's not that Capcom shouldn't try (it's a good idea from a business standpoint), but they shouldn't put so much focus in the mobile phone market and risk losing money.
As for MegaMan, while the classic formula isn't necessarily stale, it'd be nice to see if someone at Capcom could come up with a new innovative twist for MegaMan, or alternately not be afraid to experiment with different gameplay styles. (After all, the MegaMan arcade games were pretty fun.)

Rockman Xover is finally getting discontinued soon (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2014/10/rockman-xover-is-coming-to-end.html). It's about time. From what I've seen, in addition to peoples' feedback on the game, this is miles ahead of Rockman Xover. Reused assets aside, the gameplay looks pretty solid.
Even though it was only released in Korea, Rockman GoGo can still be downloaded and played through BlueStacks. There's a link to it here (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2015/01/download-rockman-go-go-right-here.html).

I forgot to mention. An Azure Striker: Gunvolt sequel has already been completed and scheduled for a release sometime later this year (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2015/02/azure-striker-gunvolt-2-announced.html). As I said in the comments, this is one of the quickest instances I've heard of a game setting a sequel, since this game was only released last August. Then again, I suppose this doesn't top the Sega Saturn being released the moment it was unveiled at E3 all those years ago.

imafune's practices has led to M#9 hype going down the toilet
that, and red ash is getting panned, because what was just going to be a hopeful mega man successor and a budding game franchise now has to be accompanied with cartoons, movies, and spinoffs among other things, and as a result has went through fuckloads of money developing this thing, way more than what should've gone to the game's development

still struggling with the online features i see
-
whatever legacy M#9 was hoping to create is going down the shitter with all of these delays
now it's delayed to summer 2016 and these delays are becoming a running gag
the backers to its kickstarters are and have been pissed, you have imafune squandering his legacy and kickstarter funds on unneeded things like cartoons and an MML successor too early for anyone to be asking for
meanwhile mega man is slowly getting attention back from capcom, i won't be surprised if the blue bomber manages to get back on his feet before his so-called successor's big launch, and even that's a stretch
and mighty gunvolt dosen't count, that's a crossover spinoff
-
At this point, they might as well go ahead and announce Mighty No. 9's cancellation.
-
It's now scheduled for a release next month, on the 21st of June. (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2016/05/mighty-no-9-launches-june-21st-in-north.html) Once again, Inafune's claiming that the game will have "no further delays", but I seriously doubt that, considering this game's track record, along with the fact that it isn't the first time he's made that claim.
-
it's gone gold, it's finalized and ready to be sent for production of retail copies, and that's about a 7 week period between now and the announced date
i'd say another delay is unlikely at this point unless comcept gets blasted off the face of the planet or something

'toons aimed toward children featuring beloved video game properties in their own universe outside main canon that are reviled by most within their fanbases, but end up being popular enough with the kids anyway to warrant continuing them
they'll probably go the low-budget "college student's first animation project" look of using cheap flash animation and wooden artificial bone-rigging that's all the rage in western 'toons these days alongside CGI

Not only is the game not in 8-bit, but Mega Man is able to charge and slide again. As awesome as that is, this may possibly mean that Proto Man won't be playable this time around. That is, unless they give him a new playstyle. I also hope they don't decide to leave Bass out, like they did in Mega Man 9.
