Old skool: Sonic the Hedgehog series; Mario series
New class: The Legend of Zelda series; Tales of Symphonia; Fire Emblem

Old school: Defender, Robotron, Joust, Tempest, just about any early-80's arcade game or early-90s MS-DOS game.
New class: Pokemon, RollerCoaster Tycoon.
