Title: Charred Dirt
Post by: Samui on Oct 28 2004, 03:23 PM
Those who like Scorched Earth will really like this game. Charred Dirt is a remake of Scorched Earth, and it is really awesome. It has background music, sounds, nice animations...Charred Dirt even lets you play against each other over the internet.

Those of you who don't know what Scorched Earth is, it is a game where you try to destroy your enemies' tanks. You get nice weapons, and everything. It kicks ass.

This is the official website for Charred Dirt: http://www.charreddirt.com (http://www.charreddirt.com)

Now what is so funny about this? =P

Anywho - I have set up a dedicated CD Server. It may not be perfectly fast, but I will fix that as best as I can. To join in, click on Multiplayer, Join Internet Game. Find "Kitsune Paradise" in the list, and select that, and click Join.

EDIT:

Scratch that. Something is buggy with the server. I have to figure out some work-around, as I didn't code it :P

There is a new version of Charred Dirt out as of last month. Multiplayer is broken and the lead dev is MIA, but we'll pry the source code from his grasp eventually and fix it.

In the meantime, .95 which has improved dedicated server support is available for download from http://www.charreddirt.com/downloads.shtml (http://www.charreddirt.com/downloads.shtml), along with .99c, the Katsucon Release, which has greater weapon variety and increased stability for hotseat multiplayer.

Well, it most certainly has been a while since that post. ShadowFang is still at the University of Arizona, and so there have been no new official releases.

However, we did manage to pry the source code from his cold, dead fingers. And so I've managed to build a new subversion, "0.99d", which has working multiplayer among other small fixes. The only problem with it is that you need to patch Windows to make it go, thanks to some odd decision from Microsoft about which updates to install and which to not install.

Visit this post (http://www.charreddirt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=23705#23705) in the Charred Dirt Forums to get the updated files, which must be extracted over an existing Charred Dirt installation. Visit this thread (http://www.charreddirt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1271) to see what I've done.
