Title: Capture Cards/TV Tuners?

Would any of you happen to know much about capture cards or TV tuners?  I lack a TV (gave it away awhile ago to someone who at the time, was more avid of a TV user than I), and would like to play some console games again, and haven't had much luck with emulating at least some of them.

So I'm wondering, would any of you guys have any insight on which would be my best bet?  Would a cheap analogue card without any hardware encoding do the job well enough (I've been leaning this way)?  I've looked into it a bit, but I'm still not too sure.

just get a secondhand CRT television somewhere, shouldn't be hard

CRTs aren't in high demand in this flatscreen-dominated era, you'll probably can get one cheap at wherever pre-owned goods are being sold

I was considering picking up a new TV, but I currently don't have any place to put one.
