Anyone remember Arkanoid? That was a very good game. But, it's not the first brick-breaking game. In 1974, Atari released Brickout which was similar to Arkanoid, except in black and white and very blocky graphics. Then, in 1987, Taito released Arkanoid, which added color, enemies, and of course, the bonus capsules.
The paddle was called a "Vaus" in Arkanoid. The bonus items could either be good or bad. There was even one that could kill your paddle instantly!
