Title: Sonic Colors
Post by: Mystical Ninja on May 26 2010, 02:25 PM
"Sonic Colors" is what they're calling it. Apparently, this is what Sega/Sonic Team, themselves, have been working on, while in the meantime, DIMPS was working on Sonic 4. Here's the official trailer:

Sonic, once arrived on the planet's entertainment, you can use immediately made aware of this rare power to help colored wisps in the escape! The Wii version of Sonic Colours combines both 2D and 3D gaming perspective, while the Nintendo DS version takes advantage of the characteristics of the double-screen console.

"The lively alien universe of Sonic Colours allows players to race at breakneck speed along amazing planets, each with its peculiarities and unique visual style." Comment on Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing SEGA. The new Sonic hedgehog Colours see our dear speeding, jumping off himself among enemies like never before in a Sonic game. The aliens WISPs are able to free their "Colour Power" that can be absorbed by Sonic drilling to create new roads, for example, the ground (via the Yellow Drill), or go through the whole internship at supersonic speed (thanks to Cyan Laser). Combining the different available energies can further increase the speed of Sonic and his abilities beyond imagination. Lots of power ups and exclusive versions will be available for Wii and Nintendo DS for a brand new super-fast gameplay of Sonic for fans around the world.

Sonic Colours will be available on Wii ™ and Nintendo DS ™ at the end of 2010.

Looks like we have two Sonic games to look forward to at the end of the year. Here's hoping that both this and Sonic 4 will turn out to be good.

this is what sonic unleashed could've been if it weren't for that damned werehog

Personally, I actually liked the Werehog gameplay in Sonic Unleashed. Mainly in the 360 version, though. I wasn't all that fond of it in the Wii version, since the controls for it weren't all that great. There's also the fact that more than half of the game consisted of Werehog stages. In the 360 version, the controls were easier, and it was generally a lot more fun. There was also an even amount of Hedgehog and Werehog stages, unlike the Wii version.

so it turns out this game is being developed by sonic team's storybook division (secret rings and black knight) and is aiming toward a younger audience

also, the storybook series is dead because black knight sucked and sold like crap

Sonic & the Black Knight bombed in sales? Somehow, that doesn't surprise me one bit. Even though the sales for Sonic Wildfire/Secret Rings was off the charts, lots of people hated it, and since Sonic & the Black Knight used a similar (if not the same) gameplay engine to the first one, I guess many people didn't see a real reason to buy it. There's also the issue of having a storyline that made little to no sense, along with the swordplay gimmick. My guess is that many people felt that swordplay has no place in the Sonic series. It's kind of ironic, though. In Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic specifically said that he would never be caught dead using weapons, but then he ended up using one in Sonic & the Black Knight.

storybook series isn't canon, they don't even take place in the same reality as the mainstream games

WTF!? So Sega are going into space too? Okey-dokey....Its the little aliens that are supposed to be called 'Wisps' that freak me out.

And either Crush 40 have a new synthesiser or they've been dropped in favour of Owl City judging by the music...

advance 2
advance 3 (?)
sonic rush

Fine! For longer than than just a few levels, then?!

If that's wrong too, please restrain yourself with the corrections!

Yeah, that game had a space stage, too. Gemel/Gemerl was fought as the final boss, and Robotnik was playable alongside Super Sonic.

Looks pretty good. On a side note, though, it's funny how so many people have complained about Sonic 4 looking like "Sonic Rush 3" or "Sonic Rush HD" (despite having little in common with it), but the DS version of this game looks more like it than Sonic 4 does.

Yep, this is definitely Sonic Unleashed 2 (minus the Werehog gameplay, of course, which I personally didn't mind). Oddly, despite being on the Wii, it plays more like the 360 version of Sonic Unleashed, rather than the Wii version, which was almost entirely different. The DS version, on the other hand, plays more like Sonic Rush. Here's a video of that one, too:

Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only video available.

*TRIPLEPOST*

Recently, it's been revealed that Sega/Sonic Team has hired new voice actors.

http://blogs.sega.com/sonic/2010/07/15/out-of-the-mouths-of-hedgehogs/

Looks like Jason Griffith and Amy Palant(sp?) are finally getting replaced, as the voices of Sonic and Tails. Unfortunately, Mike Pollock is still voicing Robotnik. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not a huge fan of his voice. I just don't think he sounds quite evil enough, but maybe that's just me.
Title: Re: A new Sonic game on the horizon?
Post by: Yerix on Jul 15 2010, 11:42 PM
robotnik's didn't get replaced probably because his best english VAs are dead now, and sega didn't feel like going through the entire US population of middle-aged men to find another

but other than that it's not just sonic and tails getting their actors replaced, sega stated "just about everybody in the active cast" is getting a replacement

sega has stated that another sonic game is underway for release on sonic's 20th anniversary

hopefully they won't ruin it, like his 15th, when sega shitted sonic '06 and sonic genesis on the cake

Even though Next-Gen Sonic/Sonic 2006 had its flaws, I still found myself enjoying the game somehow. Sonic Genesis, on the other hand...not so much. I don't know WHAT they were thinking to release THAT garbage on store shelves.

This might just be a multiplayer mode where you can choose an alternate coloration for the other player, much like other games that would do the same thing.

once again, fans have one-upped on sega

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxXycBv3Rlk&feature=player_embedded
this needs to be a fucking reality, its what fans have been wanting for so long now. even sega themselves is aware of this video
2.5D remakes of the original genesis trilogy in a style simular to this would redeem sega of crapping on sonic during last decade, plus this would give them the chance to revive scrapped concepts purposed for the original games
Title: Re: Sonic Colors
Post by: Mystical Ninja on Aug 25 2010, 04:52 PM
I saw that video last night. I thought it was pure genius. Even if Sega were to do something like that, the fanbase would just complain about Sonic having green eyes, or something else along the lines of that.

Finally, some clean Sonic Colors DS footage. (http://www.tssznews.com/2010/09/16/new-video-first-look-at-sonic-colors-ds/) It's about time. There's always been tons of videos of the Wii version, but not the DS version. The few videos that were around, had very bad quality, and you could always hear people talking over the music and sound effects, but not this time.

Anyway, this game is looking more and more awesome after ever piece of footage they show. Like I said before, this is another game that I'll be buying both versions of, just like I did with Sonic Unleashed.

Knuckles and Amy confirmed for the DS version. (http://videogamesdaily.com/interviews/201010/interview-sonic-teams-takashi-iizuka/2/) Apparently, they're just playing minor roles, like they did in the first Sonic Rush.

The voices aren't bad. Sonic's voice is going to take a little getting used to, though, since it's so vastly different from Ryan Drummond's and Jason Griffith's (which in my opinion, sound nearly identicle. I'll never understand why so many people were raging over that change, demanding that they recast Drummond).

the last time tails had a playable role was in sonic '06.
we're practically set for his return to a playable role when sonic 4 ep2 rolls around, possibly alongside knuckles as hinted.

Technically, Tails' last playable role was in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

Anyway, I just found out that there's a demo of Sonic Colors DS available on the Nintnedo Channel, so I went ahead and downloaded it. From what I've played, the game's awesome. For the most part, it plays just like the two Rush games, but without the "trick" system (from pressing the R button). Also, the Homing Attack is no longer done with the R button. Instead, it's performed with the A or B button. These slight changes took a little getting used to, but it wasn't too big of a deal.

first, i forgot to mention that i meant the main series, you listed a spinoff

second is that his last playable role in a non-sports, racing or party spinoff title is in the multiplayer mode of sonic and the black knight

Super Sonic footage. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnvC7iFyG5M) It should be noted, however, that this is only exclusive to the Wii version. The DS version continues the usual trend of Super Sonic only being playable in the final stage (as well as having its own final boss, which isn't present in the Wii version).

This game really does look fun. I watched a stream not too long ago. They played the entire game, though they did not do the Sonic Simulator thing.
