Donkey Kong Country Returns
« on: Jun 14 2010, 10:16 AM »
http://wii.ign.com/articles/109/1096857p1.html

Apparently, Retro Studios, the company behind the Metroid Prime series, is working on a long-awaited Donkey Kong platformer for the Wii. All I have to say, is that it's about freaking TIME. Other than Jungle Beat, we have NOT gotten a true Donkey Kong console platformer since Donkey Kong 64, which was nearly eleven years ago. I am BEYOND excited for this, I really am. Websites have been claiming, for the past five years at best, that a Donkey Kong platformer was going to show up at E3, and so far, it hasn't happened. However, I'm pretty sure that it's finally going to happen tomorrow, though.

Before anyone says that the above link is just a rumor, check out this link.

...What? Could it be that I'm the only Donkey Kong fan on this forum? If so, then that might change after watching this trailer:

A release date has been confirmed:

http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=25032

It's scheduled for a November 21st release date, which is just six days before my birthday. How convenient.

you know, this may not be as big of a return, at least to the old-school traditionalists who grew up mainly on the SNES trilogy

retro themselves confirmed the absence of kremlings and underwater levels, and there's nothing on the DK crew and animal buddies as of yet

Regarding the Kremlings' supposed "absence"... I still think that there's a slight chance that King K. Rool may very well be the true mastermind behind the events of that game. Usually, no other villain is interested in Donkey Kong's banana hoard but him, and I highly doubt that anyone else would steal it if K. Rool wasn't behind it in some way, shape, or form. Sure, Retro Studios might have claimed that he wasn't in the game, but even "official" statements from the PR could turn out to be false.

For example, before Star Fox Adventures was released, a Nintendo and/or Rare employee claimed Falco was going to be absent from the game, but he ended up making an appearance later on in the game (and a rather important one, too). Also, last year, Cammie Dunaway or some other Nintendo representative claimed that there was going to be a "new final boss" in the New Play Control! version of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and that turned out to be false. Lastly, the official Nintendo U.K. magazine claimed that Sonic the Hedgehog was a playble character in Super Mario Galaxy 2, along with a hidden "Green Hill Galaxy" stage, and that turned out to be false, as well.

and there's nothing on the DK crew and animal buddies as of yet
Yeah, you're right about no Animal Buddies being shown in the trailer, but Retro Studios assured the fans that there's still a lot they have in store for the fanbase, and I'm pretty sure that's going to be one of them, along with the return of the supporting Kong cast.

i'll just keep this simple:
retro said nothing on k. rool whatsoever, all retro told us his henchmen aren't returning...
for all we know he corrupted the tiki men into stealing the banana hoard for him or something

The North American boxart has been revealed:

As you can see, this is undeniable proof that Rambi and the rest of the Animal Buddies are going to be present in the game. It's little things like this that make me begin to feel the same excitement from E3 all over again. I can't wait to see what else this game has in store for us.

to be honest, that dosen't look like rambi to me, more like some random rhino they slapped on the boxart, though it might as well be rambi

Are you sure about that?

As far as I can tell, that's clearly Rambi. The only thing different about him is the facial expression.

Yep, just as I thought. The rhino in that boxart was Rambi, after all. It's about time they've showed some new footage in this game, and that's just what I wanted to see. Somehow, Rambi's gameplay reminds me of the way Hoofer played in Jungle Beat, but I don't mind that too much. It still looks fun. I'm definitely looking forward to playing this when it's released within the new two months.

Nintendo Power confirms that Cranky Kong's in the game. It's rumored that the rest of the supporting Kong cast won't be appearing, but I'm having a hard time believing that. In fact, I'm still not entirely convinced that the Kremlings aren't going to show up in some way, shape, or form.

Also, a new trailer is up.

According to this page, there's a rumor going around that:

King K. Rool is the true final boss of the game.

That piece of artwork looks very convincing, but at the same time, it seems to be drawn with a different style than the Donkey Kong, Diddy, and Cranky renders. So, in short, there's a chance that this could very well be fake, since RedLightStudios seemed to be the only person who has the piece of artwork (and happens to be an artist on top of it). I hope I'm wrong, though.
