sega finally found sonic's 2D roots...or so it seems
the old sega startup sound and the logo silhouette (looks exactly like sonic 1 title logo) at least make it hopeful...
we're in phase 1 of the sonic cycle

I saw. Maybe there is hope for them afterall?

People finaly understand that 2D is better than 3D :)
-
look here
http://blogs.sega.com/usa/2010/01/12/project-needlemouse-character-countdown-day-2/
they've gathered up some character names and killing them off each day
-
here's a piece of enemy artwork
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2713/4276408701_82bfe71a84.jpg
strongly ressembles the crab badnik from metropolis zone
edit:oh yes, a shellcracker
-
some things I got from the rumor mills
-internal name is "sonic the hedgehog 4" and likely will be it's title at release
-episodic
-downloadable from PSN and xbox live, is not wii-bound
...the first new, proper mainstream console sonic game in around 16 years (since sonic 3&K), and I won't get to play it, unless sega craps a miracle out the ass and decide on a wii port
-
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4044/4309916425_bd4308916d.jpg
motobug
also, interesting thing to note that they're using the term "badnik" to refer to these enemies on the blog, first official use of the term since S3&K i believe
-
the true title is unveiled this midnight (pacific time)
sonic's true return=sega equivalent of NoA bringing mother 3 stateside
if the wii dosen't get this as evidenced, chao are going to die

YES SONIC 4
AND ITS WII-BOUND TOO
lol, sonic 2 beta running sprites
-
As far as gameplay is concerned, it's not looking bad. The character models, on the other hand... That's a whole 'nother story. Aside from the fact that they didn't use Sonic's (or Robotnik's) classic designs like they've led people to think, I just don't think they look very good. Thankfully, that wasn't Sonic's running animation. According to what I've read somewhere at the Sega.com forums, Sonic wasn't running at full speed.
-
...character designs, HUD style, homing attack...
i have to say this:fuck the post-sonic adventure era
-
The Homing Attack existed long before Sonic Adventure, actually. It actually debuted in Sonic 3D Blast first. There was an orange monitor power-up that gave Sonic a shield that allowed him to use the Homing Attack.
-
...well 3D blast is a spin-off, so I didn't bother mentioning it
-
Sonic 3D Blast is a spin-off? How so?
-
japanese website has a slightly longer version of the supposed "title screen" music
http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicTheHedgehog4/
also noticed sonic's pose in the logo is simular to that of sonic CD title logo
-
Nice. The drums sound very reminiscent of Sonic 1 and 2.
-
theres been a leak of an alpha recently, sega's been shooting removal requests at news sites and banhammering on photobucket and youtube members posting the leak video and screenshots
-
If you happen to find it, download it. Save it for posterity. :o
-
it has the sonic 2 sega intro
title screen needs more work, sonic needs to pop out of the logo ala sonic 1, at least they got wagging the finger right
sonic 1-esque special stages, it looks like
judging from mad gear zone's level select image, those exploding star badniks from sonic 2's metropolis are returning
sonic 2-esque title cards
CPZ-esque speed boosters
monitors are back, none of those "capsules" of the post-sonic adventure era
SA2/sonic herpes menu sfx, fuck
sonic 1 chameleon badnik is back
sonic 2 buzzbomber-ish EHZ badnik is back
loading screen uses a genesis-era sonic sprite
axe the dust clouds when sonic picks up speed, use them when skidding or spindash instead
-
I meant the video. XD
Once we find one on YouTube that wasn't deleted, we can download it.
Though from your post, it sounds like it's good so far.
-
already have it
and guess what, dimps, behind the advance trilogy and the rush duo, and sonic unleashed wii/PS2, is developing
...hype just died down a bit more
-
Wouldn't know. The only thing developed by Dimps that I've experienced is Digimon Battle Spirit. And that is a pretty decent game. We'll need to wait and see.
-
advance trilogy was great but still felt they failed to fill the big shoes of the genesis predecessors
advance 1 was in my opinion the best of them
advance 2 tried to be more of a virtual roller coaster
advance 3 tried to be the bastard child of knuckles' chaotix and sonic herpes
rush had the same problem as advance 2
didn't bother to get rush adventure
-
advance 3 tried to be the bastard child of knuckles' chaotix and sonic herpes
"Sonic Herpes"? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, wow. That WAS a typo, wasn't it?
-
it was intentional
the soundtrack has been leaked, it all sounds like genesis music on steroids
find it while you still can, chances are sega might go into damage control mode again
-
You mean Splash Hill Zone? They have it up for download on their site.
Disregard that, I suck cocks.
I'm listening to the OST right now. God damn it sounds good. Special Stage sounds reminiscent of the one from Sonic 1.
-
no apperently someone with a development version of the game ripped the soundtrack
http://www.tssznews.com/2010/03/28/most-of-sonic-4-soundtrack-leaked-ripped/
you'll find the .zip full of them there, at least until sega bombs it
also, sonic 3D blast beta music being used
EDIT:proof

STUPID COUSINS WE'VE HAD SONIC 4 LONG BEFORE YOU
IN OUR DIMENSION SONIC AND SEGA ARE THE TOP 'HOGS OF THE VIDEO GAMES INDUSTRY
THE SEGA DREAMWEAVER IS DOMINATING THE CONSOLE WARS, I CANNOT WAIT FOR SONIC X-TREME 3

shit's hit the fan
the leaks and everything so far regarding sonic 4 has managed to decimate the sonic fanbase. sonic retro recently banned all sonic 4 discussion because of everyone's shitting on the game among other factors. i'm actually glad i didn't come back there.
-
Wow.
On another note, thanks for reminding me what network I am missing from my IRC client. Yes, I lurk in #retro. >.>
-
Apparently, that was only temporary. Recently, the admins changed their minds and created the "Sonic 4 Megathread" (http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=20386). Any time now, I'm waiting for it have a hundred plus pages like the Sonic Unleashed topic, and any others that I've missed.
Also, has anybody seen the leaked footage (http://www.therwp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=773847&postcount=141) yet? So far, I think this game it shaping up to be pretty good. It definitely does NOT look or play anything like Sonic Rush, like some people have been complaining about. In fact, I doubt the people who said that have even SEEN the game in motion (other than the trailer). However, this game seems more like it's simply an homage to Sonic 1, rather than an actual sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I don't exactly have too much of a problem with that, but still.

SUPER SONIC IN ACTION
-
Crap, the video got removed, due to a copyright claim by Sega. I absolutely HATE it when stuff like that happens. So, since I didn't get to see it when it was up, can someone please tell me what kind of footage it was? Was it another final battle stage, which ripped off of The Doomsday Zone, or was Super Sonic playable in another stage? If it's the latter, that'll be awesome, considering the fact that this hasn't happened since Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I've been waiting for that to happen for years.
-
mad gear act 2
super sonic in regular gameplay
-
Whoa, seriously!? THANK YOU! It's about TIME they've decided to have Super Sonic playable in more than just the final stage. That's ALWAYS been one of my pet-peeves about the newer Sonic games (even though I still enjoyed them). You just couldn't fathom my disappointment when they decided not to implement this feature in Next-Gen Sonic/Sonic 2006 like they originally intended. In that case, it was most likely because of rushed development.
Also, I've always wondered why Super Sonic wasn't present in Sonic 3D Blast, despite the fact that there are seven Chaos Emeralds in that game. Sonic CD, I could kind of understand, since those were Time Stones, rather than Chaos Emeralds, but there was no excuse for that whatsoever in Sonic 3D Blast. Ah, well. Whatever.
Anyway, I was already interested in this game after seeing the other leaked videos and everything, but now that I've heard this bit of news, I'm definitely sold on buying this game when it comes out.
-
I've always wondered why Super Sonic wasn't present in Sonic 3D Blast, despite the fact that there are seven Chaos Emeralds in that game.
either:
1. its a spin-off
2. traveller's tales didn't want to do it
3. not enough cartridge space
4. all or some of the above
-
xbox360 version of the game has been leaked
yes, the file(s) of the game itself
the leaking pipes have bursted
no, the whole plumbing system has been FUBAR'd
-
It's been leaked, you say? You mean it's available on X-Box Live Arcade now, as we speak?
-
not on XBLA but rather within circulation on the internet like say, any ROM out there
also, XBLA sonic adventure got leaked too
-
with thanks to critical praise from the press and fans, and perhaps the leaked game footage, sega delayed sonic 4 to around fall of this year as an extention of development time
CSZ act 2's score attack and LLZ act 2's mine cart level, the "gimmick acts", are getting cut out of the console versions in place of maybe regluar acts, only to remain on the mobile phone versions
physics and level design are also said to have been improved
-
http://www.tssznews.com/2010/08/18/lost-labyrinth-revealed-by-sonic-4-jp-site/
goodbye and good riddance minecart gimmick, hello torches and dynamite
-
Looking good so far. I guess this was one of the reasons why they've decided to delay the game until later on this year.
Also, are you sure the minecart gimmick is gone? There's clearly a minecart in that last screen.
-
i meant to say that the minecart's purpose in the zone was dummied down, it dosen't take the entire zone anymore
-

-
http://www.youtube.com/v/Lsqcsz2sSH4?fs=1&hl=en_US
I think things are looking better and better for this game. I just love some of the new gimmicks they've been adding to the stages, particularly the ones at the Lost Labyrinth Zone.
-
the delay was worth it
this might as well be the end of sonic's downfall
-
Oooh, Casino Night! With music reminiscent of Sonic Spinball. Do want!
-
so sonic retro banned sonic 4 discussion again.
seriously glad that i did not go back there.
from what i'm hearing of it now, it's became more of a special needs facility, daycare center, and an insane asylum combined.
sickens me that the sonic fanbase is in a downward tailspin towards an infantile mentality over green eyes.
people say sega should kill sonic and make alex kidd, opa-opa or whatever else the mascot instead.
i say kill the fanbase.
-
Seriously? Green eyes? I wonder if they noticed that his eyes were green in Sonic 3, when he turns Super Sonic. So their complaints are meaningless.
-
Actually, their recent complaints have been about the physics. They also keep on making comparisons between Sonic 4 and Sonic Rush. Sure, both games were developed by DIMPS, but the two games have next to nothing in common.
Now, in the meantime, here's the Mad Gear Zone trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/v/9St4ddK34Xo?fs=1&hl=en_US
Also, release dates have been confirmed. (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/28/sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-1-spin-dashes-to-consoles-this-oct)

some action from the final build + super sonic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzxiOu1LJfA&feature=player_embedded
and a reminder, the wiiware version releases tomorrow
-
Oh my god. That...is amazing. Sonic truly is back.
-
Not bad, but I liked the other Super Sonic song better.
-
Not bad, but I liked the other Super Sonic song better.
that was just the invincibility music in the leaked proto build, though sonic 3/&K don't have their own super/hyper theme either. i can agree it falls short of sonic 2's super sonic theme though.
makes me want to play sonic 2 again...on my real genesis, not emulated like with mega collection. i might dust the thing later on or something...
-
I have beat the Iphone ver twice already and I can say it truly is awesome! Only thing that bugs me is when you let go of a directions even if you are jumping in the air sonic comes to a halt.
-
Unfortunately, I have zero cash at the moment, so I'm unable to download the full game. I did, however, download a demo of the Playstation 3 version last night. The controls take a little getting used to and the physics definitely could have used some work, but it's still pretty decent from what I've played, though. I'm sure the game is bound to get much better after getting past the Splash Hill Zone.
-
just downloaded today
the physics are close enough to the genesis games that any differences can be overlooked, at least to me. i still can jump midway in a loop and speed off
wish you could play it with the classic controller or gamecube controller. hands started to hurt after a while with the horizontal "NES controller position" wiimote. i'm also finding it hard to keep in the spindash position, though it's probably the fault of my gripe with the controller.
the special stages are evil.
some 90% of the time you see ! exit balls, there will be bumpers near them, meaning sonic goes straight to the !'s if he hits those bumpers.
the good thing is that you can retry the special stage, like if you're about to time-out.
i have 3 emeralds as of now.
-
I'll have to get it when I can fit it in my budget. after all, i work for peanuts at walmart. =p
-
played the trial today (don't quite have the $12 to scrape up yet...whatever 1200MSP are worth). it's .... different, but not bad. at least not as bad as the fanboys are claiming it to be. the running speed will take a bit of getting used to. controls? just the same as i'd use on an emulator. i haven't noticed any glitches. i might get the full game with my next check.
-
So, last week, I finally got around to downloading the full version. I originally inteded to buy it for the Wii, but I've come across three stores in a row that were fresh out of Wii Points, so I decided to download it from X-Box Live Arcade instead, and it totally sucked, man! First of all, Sonic's eyes were green, his eyelids were blue, his legs were too long, and his quills were so long that they almost touched the ground! Also, they added the Homing Attack, and changed Robotnik's name to "Eggman"! NONE of these things should've been in the game! It was supposed to have been a direct sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles! It was supposed to have been as if Sonic Adventure and onward NEVER happened, but they completely blew it!
...
Just kidding. I actually liked the game. Sure, it did have its flaws, and the physics could have used some work, but it definitely isn't unplayable like many people have been making it out to be. This game, for the most part, definitely stayed true to what the Genesis/Mega Drive games established; speed, platforming, Special Stages (which could easily be called some of the hardest in the series), and whatever else. I do wish that the game could have been longer, though, as well as having more original content. Other than that, I think I got my money's worth with this game. I'll definitely be looking forward to Episode 2 when it comes out. Especially if Tails and Knuckles (the latter especially) are playable. Also:
Metal Sonic is going to play an important role, as Episode 1's cliffhanger ending has demonstrated.
-
I had it on iPhone and now i Have it on the wii and the wii version is way more funny than the iphone one
I have tons of VC and Wiiwares :) I love torrents !
