Nothing of Importance
« on: Jul 26 2006, 09:03 AM »
Ok this is a story I started a while ago, and ust started to pick up again. Essentially it's a book of rants, but at the same time it's a "story" as the introduction shortly explains. I view it more as a way for me to express my opinions on certain ascepts of scoiety, while remaining "annoynomous" in the literary world. Anyway, I would apreciate any critisism (Except grammar and such, I know my grammar sucks major ass, I would prefer actual input I have enough people to chastize me for my grammar ^^)

Nothing Of Importance

Introduction

Isn’t Life Funny? Heh, I can remember a time when I was full of hopes and dreams for the future. Now look at me, a 27-year-old loser who is sitting at a computer typing his last hope for making it big. About nine years ago I had my whole life in front of me. I was fairly popular in high school, and kept my grades up, I might have actually gone somewhere in life, but then I made a dumb decision, and no, it wasn’t drugs. I have always loved being able to think in theorize, so my first year at college (Go B.C.!) I decided to take a philosophy. That was it, I was hooked. I loved reading about the old philosophers, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes and Bacon, it enthralled me. And that was when I made the biggest mistake of my life, I majored in Philosophy.  When you major in Philosophy the only real think you will have to think about are the philosophical interpretations of a patty and a spatula. I learned tons, but believe it or not, a penny for your thoughts doesn’t get you much in today’s world, so I am writing this, a little food for thought coming straight out of my head.
You may be wondering why I would choose such a strange title for a book. I mean who wants to read something that the author decides is “Nothing of Importance”, right? Actually the title has twofold meaning. One is more “in-depth” than the other. In today’s society the opinion of a poor man really doesn’t mean didly-squat, so by many these thoughts may simply be cast off as “nothing of importance”. The second reason is a bit more fun.
Friend: Hey what are you reading?
Reader: Nothing of Importance
Friend: Hey, I was just asking. If you don’t want to tell me, just say so!
Kinda cheesy, I know, but I thought it was funny, and it’s my book so there!
I hope you truly enjoy the experience, and if you don’t I hope that you can at least feel good about the fact that your $11.95 or so went to a good cause, me. Now, without further ado (well, not counting this) I give you, Nothing of Importance.

The Gender War
I find it so sad that the human race, in all its “greatness” can still put so much importance into what GENDER you are. I am sure most of you have heard of the Political Spectrum before, and if you haven’t then I hate to inform ya buddy, but this won’t be a very fun book for you, so just close the book, and walk away. Anyway, I have devised a little spectrum for Gender Bias. Let’s assume the Left represents “Male Supremacy” and the right represents “Female Supremacy”, shall we?

On the far left we have the extreme “Male Supremacists”, or as I prefer to call them, Sexist Bastards. These are the people (as, sadly, it isn’t strictly men) who think Women need to be repressed, and they need to know their place, you know all that bullshit. Next we have the mildly sexist (against Women) people. They don’t think women should be REPRESSED, but they don’t think they should have full rights either. Then we come to the middle, Feminists. Now I know some of you guys are saying “I’m not a sexist, but I am not a Feminist either! Only Women are Feminists!” Let me ask you this, do you believe Women should be treated equally to Men in society “Yeah but…” *Smack* you’re a feminist then dumbass. Further along our trip to the right we have those who are mildly sexist towards Men. These are the individuals (again, some of both gender) who believe that Women are slightly better than Men, and think that Men should lose some rights, leaning society slightly towards the Women’s side. Now we have reached the end of our journey with the “Female Supremacists”, or “Neo-Amazons” as I call them. These are the people who think men should be locked up and used strictly as breeding stock, until a better option comes around. These people scare the living shit out of me, needless to say.

Now I am sure you think it is just great that I have them all categorized, big freakin whoop-de-do, but now let me explain about the extremes in gender supremacy. I think I will start with the Female Supremacists, simply because they are a bit newer. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the feminist movement, but these guys (oh, excuse me, “people”) take it too far. They are the creepy icky side of Feminism that has the whole “Female World Domination” thingy going for them. Not good.

Next we have the Feminists (Ok I don’t think the in betweens really need a separate explanation, you can figure it out.) This is what the average Joe Schmoe is. You can see how men are better at some thing, and how women are better at other things, but in general nothing is really limited by gender (Except maybe giving birth… at the moment. Damn science.) And there is no reason to limit society to gender roles. Go you!

Finally, we have the Sexist Bastards! You guys suck just as much as the Neo-Amazonians! You think that this is a Man’s World and that Women should be seen and not heard. I got two words for you and they aren’t Merry Christmas. These people tend to be a bit worse than the Neo’s, just because the Neo’s are generally reacting to these guys, in what they see as Justice. History is filled with these morons, and they still thrive in today’s societies.

Ok, so now I know what you’re thinking, “Why the hell did you just waste minutes of my life by making me read that?” Because, I can, this is a book for ranting. Now onto the more important part of the gender war now that you know the participants. Oddly enough this war is most often fought by the Feminists, or the mildly sexist, but rarely by the two extremes. I am sure you have all heard kids arguing over which gender is better. Goes something like this:
”Girls are better!”
”Nuh-uh! You doo-doo head! BOYS are better”
”No! Boys have cooties!”
”Yeah, well you girls are all stupid ca-ca faces!”
Ever since we are young we seem to argue over something as simply as gender. We are trying to argue that an extra leg on the sex chromosome (or a lack of one) can make us better. That’s some bullshit right there. It is arguable that Men and Women are suited naturally for certain tasks, but that doesn’t mean a Girl can’t kick a guys ass in arm wrestling and a single father can’t raise children. The gender war pisses me off to no end. Who really gives two shits what gender you are, it won’t help you if you have no skills. People wonder why society has so many problems with such a simple random “gene draw”, but this war sure as hell isn’t helping.

What Are We?

Ok, so we’re moving right on to the next bit (Hope I’m not going too fast for you.) This next bit is an essay I wrote for my AP European History Class in response to Schindler’s List (One of the best movies of all time. Brilliant directing by Spielberg). I know what your thinking, “History Class? I thought you were 27?!?!” I am… I just save everything. I still have those crap papers they have you write in 1st-5th too if you want to see them… I didn’t think so, so moving right along!

What are we? Throughout history this question has been asked. Following a particularly horrific scene of “Schindler’s List” my friend Emma Bogan turned to me and asked that very question. During the Holocaust prisoners were treated as numbers and statistics by the Nazis, they were just seen as names. Is that all we really are? No. Human beings are filled with thoughts, feelings, aspirations, wants and needs. All this can’t be summed up in a number or name.
Look up at the night sky and you can (usually) see stars, billions spread across the cosmos. From a distance they all seem generally the same to us, little specs of light, but if you were to look at one closely you could see what makes the star unique, special, and see it’s true beauty. The same applies to people. When you are walking in a hall, or down the street you usually pay little mind to those around you. At first glance you can’t tell anything about them, especially in this day and age when appearances are often deceiving. With this in mind it is easy to understand how some people can overlook the uniqueness that every individual has.
Some might view people as they do the stars, from a distance. “So what if a few die, there are billions more.” People who think this way don’t consider that when a person dies, it is like an entire universe blinking out of existence. Everything that made that person up, their personality, their dreams, their thoughts, their needs and desires instantly vanish, leaving those who knew them devastated.
Anyone who has ever lost a loved one can tell you people are more than just a number or a name. You can’t kill a name or a number, they can’t die, but people can. To know the pain of losing a loved one is to know the value that every individual has, to know that there is more to us, each and everyone one of us, which can never be put into words.
Throughout the course of human history we have wondered what we truly are, from the Ancient Greeks to the Philosophers of the modern age. Though the answer can’t be put into words if you look deep enough inside of yourself you can find the answer to the eternal question, “What are we?”

So, that’s about it. I hope it gives you something to think about. If not, then I hope I didn’t scare you off with the big words.

Stuff That Pisses Me Off

1. "I could care less" No no no! See, that means you DO care, because you can care less. If you don't care, it's like being at 0% can’t get less (Unless you get into negative, which isn't realistic) But if you are at 1%, you can get less (You could care less) So, GET IT RIGHT ASSHOLES! Then again, you probably could care less about all of this

2. The current state of public education in America. Not only is ninety percent of it simply busy work, but of the ten percent of it that DOES involve actually learning something, maybe three percent is applicable in real life. Factual information is great, and the quest to know is a very respectable one, but knowing when the war of 1812 was (Gee, I wonder...) won’t help a student find a job, balance their check book, do the taxes, or figure out how much to tip the waiter! Let’s get some “real life” preparation classes in our school!

3. Religious Intolerance. In America it’s usually the “good” Christians, but any religion can have its zealots (Even Atheists) and they are usually in the minority. Unfortunately this minority attracts the most attention and makes the rest seem bad (Such as terrorist attacks by zealot Muslims, making the rest of the respectable religion look bad. For now I’m going to zone in on the Christians, just because the two main groups we hear about in the media in America are Christians and Atheists. I mean all the “good-natured” Christians who feel the need to shove their religion down the throats of others. The ones who proclaim that if you don’t believe exactly how they believe on the subject of religion, that you’re going straight to Hell! To me, Christianity always seemed to be about teaching acceptance, tolerance, and forgiveness, not “if-you-don’t-agree-with-me-then-you’re-going-straight-to-Hellness.” I’m done with this for now, but you can bet your ass you’ll see this again…

4. Safety. There is too much safety in the world today. I’m not talking about matinence checks on rides, or “safety scissors” and stuff like that, that’s important, I’m talking about the billions of warning labels that come with buying something as simple as a freakin’ Yo-yo! I saw this warning label on a lighter recently, “This lighter contains flammable gas” WELL NO FUCKING SHIT!!! Another thing that is annoying is all the safety laws, like helmet laws and seatbelt laws; I say we get rid of ‘em. If you can’t figure out that flying straight out a windshield at 50 miles an hour could have a negative impact on your health, or that if your head slams into the cement the least of your problems will be helmet hair, then I don’t need you in my gene pool!

5. The abuse of the word “Hero”. This word is used WAY too much, and it takes away from the real heroes. How can we lump a guy who happened to have a ladder at the right time to save a kitty and a guy who saved the life of hundreds by risking his life to defuse a bomb in the same group? Why is it that whenever a celebrity comes down with the sniffles, or has yet ANOTHER divorce, they are a hero and an inspiration to us all, while meanwhile we have thousands of single mothers and fathers in the world who are trying to just get by while supporting a family, and do a damn good job of it! Let’s bring back the real heroes and leave the imitations at the door.

A Call to the colorblind

This section is dedicated to all the narrow-minded color blind people in the world. I don’t mean those who can’t see color, I mean those who only see in black and white. Lost? Good! I’m talking about people that view everything as this or that, good or evil, no in between, no gray, these people annoy me. Just for shits and giggles (Ok, so I’m being lazy, sue me) I’m going to use Star Wars as an example. So we have the Jedi (“good”) and the Sith (“bad”). Are we to believe that the second you pick up a light saber you become either good or evil? That the wielders of the force can ONLY be good or evil? Where are the neutrals? Can’t someone driven by passion (a Sith trait) do “good”? Are we to believe that an “emotionless” Jedi can’t commit acts of “evil”? Bullshit! Just because you are “good” doesn’t mean you can’t do “evil”, I mean the words “good” and “evil” are bullshit anyway. To Americans the Taliban are evil, but the Taliban see US as evil. I know some may find that shocking, “America? Evil? They kill people, they caused 9/11, what have WE done?” There’s a large list of things I could mention that America has done, but for simplicity sake, we waste food and destroy the environment, and think it’s our job to police the world… but that’s for another time. Good and Evil are just opinions, based on a point of view. There are no absolute Good or Evil acts, there are just occurring events.

Chess: Dual of Hearts

Relationships, both before and after can be like a complex game of chess. When I mentioned this to my friend Tom, he said the Pawns were probes, the friends you send out to find out if the other person likes you or not (Ah, Childish games ^^) And so that gave me an idea, so we started assigning different roles to the  different pieces of Chess. Enjoy.
King~ The Lovers in question
Queen~ The Best Friends of the King.
Bishops~ The Conscience of the Lover. Think shoulder Angel/Devil.
Knights~ The acts of kindness and the like you perform to get the other King's attention.
Rooks~ The Parents, trying to protect the King from the dangers the other King presents (Castling, Duh.)
Pawns~ Friends of the King, who get a feel for the situation, and find out if the other King is interested.
I think we did a pretty good job, what do you think? Hm, oh wait, it doesn't matter, it's my book! Whoo! I love that part. Even still I hope you enjoyed it, or at least made you think, I mean you have to get your moneys worth, right?

Short Thoughts
GOD IS STALKING ME!

Blood is thicker than water, but without water there would be no blood.

Screw the Who! I want to see The What!

There is no “I” in Team. There is also no “Us” “We” or “Them”. Who the fuck is playing?

FUCK CENSORSHIP!

Who are “They” and why are they saying things?
