Decisions and Conflicts
Chapter 1
The air was clean and fresh as a new morning began. Rocky was lying, numb, on the stone floor in front of the gold emerald. She lay awake, the floor was to cold for her to fall asleep on. She lay waiting. Waiting what the day would bring. The wind blew through her quills making her shiver, and footsteps could be heard draw nearer and nearer. Rocky lifted herself up slowly, watching out for any intruder coming near.
The footsteps ceased, Rocky half turned, all to see that her precious emerald had turned jet black and a mysterious female red echidna stood beside it. This echidna looked a similar age to err but had a cybertronic front dreadlock instead of a real one. She laughed at Rocky.
“What have you done?!” Rocky growled annoyed, taking a step towards her.
The mysterious echidna laughed again, “oh nothing…” she replied almost casually, “Just stolen the power from it. Now I’ll just TAKE IT!” she laughed maliciously.
Rocky growled lowly, a warning growl. “ Leave it alone!” she shouted as the mysterious echidna was about to take it, “You don’t have the power to posses it!” She ran forward, her fists in front of her and punched the echidna, hard, in the stomach to stop her, the echidna fell a step back but countered Rocky’s attack by grabbing her wrist and throwing her hard to the ground. Rocky was defenceless, she hit the stone floor hard, injuring her back. She screwed her eyes up in pain, as hot tears began to weld in her eyes.
The Echidna‘s, (Alana her name), smile turned into an evil laugh, “Better luck next time,” she said sarcastically. Rocky’s eyes closed and her whimpering stop, she was in to much pain, she could see scenes from her childhood flow through her mind. Likewise, with Alana. She saw a 2year old version of Knuckles, lying on the floor not moving. Her parents were there as well, bleeding from the wounds where they had been brutally shot. She looked down at Rocky, pain on her face.
“I’m sorry…” she said, her voice beginning to choke up. She placed the Emerald back on its Pedestal, its gold brightness slowly coming back as she restored it to its true beauty and power. She then knelt down by the poor injured guardian who was still in pain. Placing her palms on her head, she transported some of her own energy to heal the guardian. Her eyes flickered open as the energy awoke her. “I’m Alana… What’s your name?”
Rocky sat up slowly, she put her and to her head, which was throbbing like a winter blizzard. She looked at her confused, this girl tried to kill her minutes ago now she w as soft as anything. “My name? Err… Rochuex but, but all my friends from the village call me Rocky.”
Alana smiled, seeing that the young Guardian was ok. Her face then turned down and her voice choked up again, “I’m sorry for troubling you… Maybe I should just leave…” as she got up to leave the shrine she fell to the ground in pain, clutching her stomach and keeling over.
Rocky moved slowly over to her, her back still injured and painful as ever. She lifted herself up so she was sat parallel to Alana, “you ok?”
Alana was screaming out, she sounded as though she was in a lot of pain, more than Rocky, yet she hadn’t been hurt. “EGGMAN! STOP IT!!! I DON’T WANT TO DO THIS!!!” she continued to scream, it was getting worse. Rocky covered up her ears, Alana put her hands to her head and was screaming around.
“Eggman?” Rocky muttered to herself. The name was familiar to her, just like it was to every Sonic Hero, but what did it have to do with this echidna. She knelt by her, placing Alana’s head on her knee like a Mother would do, she tried to calm her down, “shhhh…” she began to gently rock, “shhh… it’s ok, Eggman’s not here, calm down.”
Alana screwed her eyes shut. A blast of white light fills the sky, just like the calming after a storm. Her screaming ceased as well as Rocky’s pain form her back. Alana looked up at her, “Thanks Rocky,” she smiled, “you helped me gain control.” she gazed sadly at her metal dreadlock, “I hate this stupid dreadlock!”
Rocky looked sympathetically at her, for the first time actually noticing her metal dreadlock, she points at it, “this metal 1 here?”
“yeah. The first time I disobeyed Eggman… he replaced my real one with a copy that can control me…” she smiled grimly, “I was only 6”
Rocky looked at her horrified, she thought her past was painful, but nothing could be compared with this, “That’s disgraceful!! Ur his servant?!”
“pretty much…” she looked at the floor, “I want to be free of him…find my brother, be a guardian of the master emerald again…”
Rocky thought for a moment, there was only one echidna who guarded the master emerald, if what this girl was saying was true. Could it mean she and Knuckles were siblings? Rocky looked at her and asked, “Knuckles?!”
Alana looked up at her in disbelief, “He’s still alive? I thought all of my family died!”
Rocky didn’t have any idea what she was on about, about her family, but she knew Knuckles was alive. “Of course he’s alive! Why would he be dead?! He is one of the best Guardians ever! Do you ant me to take you to him? He doesn’t live far from here and we’re pretty good mates.”
“Rocky! Listen! I can’t set foot on Angel Island!”
“Why not?!” Rocky was beginning to get very angry “Every echidna has a right to be on this island!”
“No. It’s because of all the bad things I’ve done, working for Eggman. Like kidnapping Sonic, for instance…”
Rocky looked at her as if to say, ‘you kidding! No one can do that!” but Alana looked her straight I the eyes and told her with a look that she did. With out thinking, Rocky blurted out, “he’s a jerk anyway!”
Alana just sighed, Rocky could tell she was desperate, “I gotta get him out the Egg Carrier! Eggman is going to destroy him and its all my fault!” she sank to her knees.
Although she hated Sonic herself, Rocky could see that Alana really wanted to help him escape, it wasn’t in her nature to not help someone in need, even if they did try to kill her. “let me help…” she said, “I have a nifty technique that can help, which that Eggbelly doesn’t know about!”
Alana looked up at her blankly, “You’ll actually hep me? After I tried to kill you?” she asked.
“Don’t worry, you can make it up to me if this plan goes wrong” Rocky closed her eyes and her body gradually became invisible, she knew that Alana couldn’t see her, “ready?” she asked.
Alana looked round and stared at the position where she thought Rocky was, “Ready.” she replied.
Rocky came back visible on the other side of Alana where he wasn’t looking. “I’m sorry, my chameleon traits are coming out. Anyway that’s my special ability I can turn invisible. Hopefully Eggman doesn’t know about it ^^”
Alana turned quickly to look at Rocky a she had been staring in the other direction, “Are you related to that detective, Espio or something?” she asked puzzled.
She shrugs, “I dunno, I know that my Father was a chameleon who was a retired assassin and my Mother was the daughter of the leader of the clan.”
“Your invisibility trick is just like his, also in a way, your personality is similar. Its possible you could be”
“I spose, I think we’ve talked longed enough though, I think we need to save Sonic before anything does happen to him!”
“Yeah!” Alana cheered. “Ok! I’m ready!”
Rocky stretched, performing the splits easily. Her back clicks loudly “That felt good!” she gets up quickly, “lead the way!”
